Connection looks different for everyone — a quiet coffee with a friend, a support group, or a simple message that says, “I’m here.”

As Mental Health Week continues, let’s remember that connection is powerful. It can change the course of someone’s day — even their life.

If you’re struggling, reach out. We’re here to listen: https://mhf.org.au/clear-path-counselling-services/

Too often, mental health is spoken about without hearing from those at its centre.Lived experience matters.

Real change happens when we listen to the voices of people who have walked the journey themselves. Their expertise shapes services, informs policy, and shows us what support really looks like.

Exciting news from our friends at MIFA!

The Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia (MIFA) is delighted to announce James Maskey as Chief Executive Officer, effective 11 November 2025.

James brings extensive experience in advocacy, policy reform, and peak-body leadership, grounded in his lived experience of PTSD. He has held senior roles at Australia’s leading mental health organisations, including the Queensland Alliance for Mental Health, Fortem Australia, and Beyond Blue, gaining deep expertise in government relations, policy advocacy, and national program delivery. Throughout his career, he has focused on strengthening community-based mental health services so people with high need mental health challenges, and their family carers can access rights-based, practical, and locally driven support.

James will build on MIFA’s nearly four decades of work, supporting its member organisations and collaborating with them to shape policy, strengthen the sector, and improve outcomes for people living with high need mental health challenges and their families.

The Board extends its heartfelt thanks to Tony Stevenson for his extraordinary leadership and advocacy. Tony’s vision has positioned MIFA as a trusted and influential voice in the mental health sector, and we are grateful for his guidance during this transition.

Please join us in welcoming James Maskey to MIFA. We look forward to working with him, our members, our team and partners to support people living with high need mental health challenges and their families and to strengthen the sector together.
