Employer-Led Child Care Solutions Summit
A No-Cost Event for Area Employers hosted by ChildStart
Friday, August 28, 2026 | 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Wichita State University Metroplex

Child care has become one of the most significant workforce challenges facing Kansas employers. Join business leaders, employers, policymakers, and community partners for an interactive summit focused on developing practical, employer-led solutions that strengthen our workforce and expand access to quality, affordable child care.

This working session will feature state and national experts, discussion of emerging employer-supported child care strategies, and opportunities for participants to help shape recommendations for the 2027 Kansas Legislative Session.

Together, participants will work toward three outcomes:

- A 2027 Employer Child Care Policy Agenda for the Kansas Legislature.
- An Employer Action Plan with practical strategies businesses can implement to support working families.
- A Coalition Work Plan to advance employer engagement, public policy, and collaborative action across the Wichita region.

Building on two successful regional convenings, this summit represents the next phase of an employer-led effort to strengthen workforce participation through expanded access to quality child care.

The SBA Great Plains Regional Advocate will be in Wichita July 1-2 to hear directly from small businesses, particularly manufacturers and those working as defense contractors, on the challenges experienced in obtaining or maintaining CMMC compliance and supply chain reporting requirements for the use of critical minerals covered under Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act (tin, tungsten, tantalum, gold).

The primary role of the SBA Office of Advocacy is to advance the views and concerns of small businesses before Congress, the White House, federal agencies, federal courts, and state policymakers. Direct feedback from small businesses and stakeholders is critical to their role and mission to change, eliminate, or even prevent burdensome regulations that place undue hardship on small businesses.

It’s important that manufacturers who are experiencing challenges with CMMC and critical minerals regulations share feedback at these roundtables. Accordingly, please forward this information to others within your network or supply chain who are also subject to these regulations.

A heart-felt 'thanks' to Omni Aerospace Inc. for a truly great tour event last Thursday! A special thanks to owner, Gretchen O'Neill, and CEO, John O'Neil, as well as John McMahon, VP of Sales and Strategy, and their team!

Thanks so much for sharing the amazing Omni facility and the hospitality! Very impressive!

Thanks also to our event sponsor, Centimark, who specializes in industrial roofing solutions!

Omni Aerospace, as the name suggests, produces a wide-range of challenging parts and assemblies from solid and analog relay boxes to wire harnesses to electrical test boxes to vey complex mill-turn parts and very large, complex aircraft floor and bulkhead parts.

Some of what we saw:
1 - A review of the company progression, since starting in 1994. with progressively larger and complex projects and capital investments.
2 - Examples of electrical box assemblies and electrical connectors.
3 - Detailed explanation of very complex parts machined on mill-turn machines.
4 - Detailed explanation of their quality processes.
5 - Explanation of their Starrag, 6-axis milling and rail guided shuttle system.
6 - Met a number of very proud and gracious team members from the 100 total factory employees.
7 - 96,000 sq ft factory.
