All the animals have now left the HEART shelter at the Spokane County Fairgrounds as of last Saturday, including sweet Wasabi, the Emu.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has supported HEART during this response. ❤️🐾

As of 3:00 PM today, we are wrapping up our shelter operations at the fairgrounds, as all of the animals in our care have either returned home or found other accommodations.

We are so grateful for every volunteer, every donation, every person who offered to help, and for the incredible love this community has shown for one another and for our animals.

Although shelter operations are ending, HEART’s work doesn’t stop here. We are always grateful for monetary donations that help us replenish and prepare for the next emergency. Your support helps us restock crates, leashes, collars, bowls, and other essential supplies, maintain the HEART truck, cover trailer storage, and invest in better equipment so we can respond even more effectively in future disasters and emergency rescue situations.

We are currently experiencing issues with Venmo again, so for now, please use our GoFundMe or PayPal if you would like to make a monetary donation. We will be working on a more secure and stable donation platform in the upcoming weeks.

We sincerely hope we don’t have to see you again anytime soon under circumstances like these — but if we do, HEART will be here.

For many in our community, the road ahead will still be a long one. Please continue to look out for one another.

From all of us at HEART, thank you. We are incredibly grateful for this community 🤝❤️

🚨URGENT DONATION UPDATE🚨

Our local donation centers are overwhelmed and currently at capacity. At this time, we are asking the community to pause physical donations of clothing, hygiene products, pet food, and other supplies.

Many fire victims and evacuees simply do not have anywhere to store these items, and our volunteers are working nonstop to sort through what has already been donated.

Right now, monetary donations are the most helpful. Even a few dollars donated to HEART, SCRAPS, Best Friends, or other trusted nonprofits supporting fire victims and animals can make an immediate difference.

We are incredibly grateful for everything this community has already given. ❤️

Please share far and wide, and if you can, help us redirect physical donations into financial support right now.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RESTOCK HEART ❤️🐾

Our emergency response trailers have been heavily used, and now we need to replenish the supplies that allow us to respond when disaster strikes.

Wildfires, animal seizures, evacuations, and other emergencies can happen at any time. Your donation helps HEART replace critical supplies, restock our trailers, and stay ready to care for animals when our community needs us most.

Every donation makes a difference. If you’re able to give, please consider donating to our GoFundMe and helping us prepare for the next emergency.

HEART is a volunteer driven non profit. 100% of donations go back to the organization.

Training For Best Practice 🐴

Training with different large animals is vital for HEART members.

It not only helps to ensure the safety of HEART’s member volunteers, but it also ensures that animals are handled and cared for well.

In January members attended a Horse Handling Training in which they learned correct haltering and how to lead horses. They learned that in stressful situations horses need to be led from danger in a confident manner by their handler. HEART members practiced putting different types of halters on horses and leading them with the correct leading rein hand positions, walking confidently toward a pre-determined destination and so transferring their own confidence to the horse.

The exercises took approximately 2 hours and were attended by a large number of HEART members.

Special thanks to Pleasant Valley Stable for the use of their facility.

HEART continues to invite new members. Information about becoming a member is available at: www.heartofspokane.org
