SNAP is proud to share an important and thoughtful transition in our organization’s leadership, one that reflects both a strong legacy and a clear path forward. After more than 15 years as Chief Executive Officer, Julie Honekamp will begin transitioning from her role, with the change fully effective January 1, 2027. Since becoming CEO in 2011, Julie has led SNAP through a period of remarkable growth—expanding the organization to more than 30 programs and helping tens of thousands of individuals and families across our region each year. Her leadership has strengthened SNAP’s ability to meet community needs with compassion, innovation, and impact. As we honor that legacy, we’re equally excited to announce that Amber Johnson has been selected by SNAP’s Board of Directors as our next Chief Executive Officer. Amber brings nearly two decades of nonprofit leadership experience and a deep understanding of SNAP’s mission, having served most recently as Chief Operating Officer. She will step into the role of Incoming CEO on June 1, 2026, and officially assume the CEO position on October 1, 2026, working alongside Julie to ensure a seamless and intentional transition.
This moment marks not just a leadership change, but a continuation of SNAP’s commitment to the communities we serve. For 60 years, SNAP has remained focused on increasing human potential by providing opportunities for people in need—supporting more than 48,000 neighbors in 2025 alone through programs including housing stability, energy assistance, financial access, and more.
We are deeply grateful for Julie’s extraordinary leadership and lasting contributions to our organization and community. At the same time, we look ahead with confidence and excitement as Amber steps into this role, guiding SNAP into its next chapter of service and impact.
