In recognition of Mental Health Awareness, Northeast FYSPRT is bringing together community partners, service providers, and families for a day focused on connection, wellness, and support. Behavioral health resources from over 50 different vendors. Parking is FREE

In honor of Juneteenth — Freedom Day, all SNAP offices will be closed today, Friday, June 19. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally received word of their freedom — two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day to honor Black history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of justice and equity for all.

SNAP will reopen on Monday, June 22. If you need assistance, visit snapwa.org for resources and program information.

For Carol Weltz, SNAP’s mission is personal.

Before joining SNAP, Carol turned to the organization for help as a widowed mother raising four children. Years later, she returned—not as a client, but as a leader dedicated to helping others navigate difficult times and build a path forward.

In this SNAP Story Project feature, Carol shares her journey from receiving assistance to leading Community Action programs that help thousands of Spokane County residents each year. Along the way, she reflects on resilience, hope, and why meeting people’s basic needs is often the first step toward opportunity.
