I drove by the Iris gardens in Manito Park a couple of days ago. I have never seen such a beautiful site. The new bed design done by Steve Nittolo and installed by the IEIS sets off the gorgeous Iris that were all in bloom this year absolutely beautifully. So if you want to see some beautiful drive by soon, before the Iris stop blooming. This club has something to be proud of.

It's not about hives. It's about habitat. Here's what you need to know to help wild bees in your own backyard.

I have to say, I don't think that I have seen this use of an Iris before, have you? I like it.

Sometimes, amongst all the angry posts, politics, global warming and stress, you just need a picture of a mouse sleeping in a flower.

Elegant to say the least

'Maid Of Astolat' (Jacob Sass, 1933) Stately, sophisticated, elegant. This clean frosty white variety is highlighted with a purple heart and has a seriously elongated form that really stands out in the garden. In its day it was exceptionally tall for a white. Eagerly sought by collectors today. Grew quite well in my PNW garden. -Mike

I have not seen this Iris before. 6 standards - and it has the name of Allison, just like our fabulous secretary/treasurer/master of all things. Every club must have an Allison. This flower is very pretty.

'May Allison' (Allison, 1920) The sweet old diploid with a little something extra - six standards! What a show off this one is. I always look forward to seeing it. It is a sport of 'Celeste' and is just charming. Read more about it here: http://theamericanirissociety.blogspot.com/2011/11/iris-classics-may-allison.html
It is the loveliest pale blue color. A real stand-out in the garden border. -Mike
