Yesterday, we were grateful to partner with Washington Branch International Dyslexia Association and NEWESD 101 to bring a dyslexia simulation and presentation to Spokane.

Educators, specialists, administrators, families, and community members came together with one shared goal: to better understand and support those with dyslexia.

Through simulation, thoughtful discussion, and insightful content, we explored both the visible challenges of dyslexia and the stress and anxiety that can exist beneath the surface. We also gained practical insight into structured literacy and evidence-based ways to better support students.

Thank you to Dr. Alicia Roberts Frank for traveling to Spokane and to the WABIDA board members for sharing their expertise. We’re grateful for this partnership and look forward to continuing this important work together!

Our hearts remain with Spokane families still facing evacuation, displacement, and loss from the ongoing wildfires. For children, this crisis can mean losing not only a home, but also familiar routines, clothing, school supplies, and the stability that helps them feel safe.

Those wishing to help can support organizations providing direct services to local children and families:

💙 HEART Program — Helps students experiencing housing instability access gift cards and essential support:

👕 Teen & Kid Closet — Provides free clothing, shoes, hygiene items, and essentials to children and teens in need:

🏠 Spokane Complex Wildfire Response Fund — Supports immediate and long-term recovery needs for individuals and families through trusted local nonprofit partners:

Please continue sharing trusted resources and extending patience and compassion to students who may be carrying more than we can see.

Together, we can help our community’s children feel safe, seen, and surrounded by hope.

Wildfires disrupt more than homes—they can take away a child’s routines, school supplies, safe spaces, and sense of stability.

INW Dyslexia Alliance has gathered local resources to help displaced students and families find childcare, school support, food, clothing, housing, health services, and emotional care.

Please share these slides to help families connect with support. Resources may change quickly, so call 211 or confirm details before visiting.

Together, we can help every child feel safe, supported, and seen.
