This week, JJ’s Journey took us onto the court with Riley Stockton, Executive Director of the Spokane Hoopfest Association🏀

From hosting the largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world to running the Hooptown Youth League that serves 3,500 kids every fall, Spokane Hoopfest is doing so much more than growing the love of basketball. They’re building character, confidence, and community.

We’re so grateful for Riley and the entire Hoopfest team for the incredible impact they’re making on Spokane’s young people and our community and for being valued members of Greater Spokane Inc.

We are so proud to announce that our CEO, Alisha Benson, has been named chair-elect of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE), a national organization connecting leaders from 1,300 chambers across the country.

This is a meaningful opportunity to put Spokane at the table, share what we’re learning, and bring ideas from communities across the country back home.

Big things are being built in Spokane and Hotstart Inc is a great example of what growth from right here in our region can look like!

We were proud to join the Hotstart team yesterday to celebrate the ribbon cutting for their newest facility expansion: 90,000 additional square feet that increases the company’s production capacity by approximately 60%.

Hotstart has grown from a local manufacturer into a global company, serving customers around the world. The next chapter is already taking shape as the company expects to surpass $100 million in annual revenue for the first time.

That kind of growth means more than square footage. It means continued investment in Spokane, new opportunities for our workforce, greater manufacturing capacity, and a local company competing—and winning—in global markets.

Congratulations to the entire Hotstart team on this milestone! We’re proud to celebrate companies that continue to build, invest and grow in the Spokane region.

On October 14, Spokane will have the opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s leading voices on those questions: Pulitzer Prize-winning presidential historian and bestselling author Jon Meacham.

Whitworth University's Fall 2026 President’s Leadership Forum will bring Meacham to the Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox for an evening exploring American leadership, democracy and the pursuit of a more perfect union — followed by a Q&A with Whitworth President Scott McQuilkin.

This week, JJ’s Journey took us on-site with Baker Construction & Development at their newest building project: Valley Real Life Church. Hard hats on, we got an up-close look at the impressive steel structure taking shape. 🦺

After speaking with CEO Brooke Baker Spink, we were “thunderstruck” by their deep commitment to the community and the strong culture they’ve built by investing in their team.

As a family legacy business with 75 years of building projects and relationships, they’ve laid a foundation that’s built to last. With a legacy this strong, it’s easy to see why they’re such a valued part of our region. We’re proud to have them as part of the GSI community and can’t wait to see what they build next!
