This past week, INWC board members Kim Zubrick, Josh Keys, Ken McNaughton and Z Zubrick hosted two groups of veterans and first responders for some fishing on Holter Lake, near Wolf Creek, Montana. This is the 4th year we have collaborated with the awesome crew from Fishin' 4 All who donate these trips for our warriors. Along for the ride and providing top notch guide service was Keys Family Guide Service.

The first group arrived on Sunday, the 7th, and fished three days catching big thick rainbows and a few kokanee. The second group arrived on the 11th and even though the forecast was sketchy, the foul weather held off and both days were very productive for all.

Among the group this year were Vietnam veterans, Cold War veterans, retired Air Force Msgts, retired Firefighters, and a retired law enforcement officer.

Incredible fishing, scenery, fun, fellowship, and food. Many thanks to our guests for saying yes, and to the 7R Guest Ranch for providing the venue, and hospitality.

House Natural Resources Chair Westerman and Ranking Member Huffman just introduced the Great American Outdoors Act 250, a bipartisan reauthorization of the Legacy Restoration Fund ahead of America's 250th anniversary.

Here's what you need to know: That's $1.9 billion annually for five years. Straight at the deferred maintenance backlog that's been piling up while hunters & anglers show up anyway, cracked boat ramps and washed out trails and all.

The Department of the Interior has announced 1,450 new hunting and fishing opportunities and opened more than 2.3 million acres of public land access for America’s hunters and anglers through its new “open unless closed” doctrine.

For years sportsmen have watched public access slowly disappear under growing regulations and pressure from preservation groups that treat hunting and fishing like outdated activities instead of the backbone of modern conservation. This policy marks a major shift by recognizing that public lands should remain open to traditional use unless there is a clear reason to restrict access.

Hunters and anglers helped build the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation and continue funding wildlife management through licenses, excise taxes, and habitat restoration programs. Expanding access is one of the most important things we can do to keep hunting and fishing alive for future generations, especially as private land access becomes harder and harder for average Americans to afford.

Thank you to Secretary Doug Burgum and the Department of the Interior for standing up for public access and recognizing the role sportsmen play in conserving America’s wildlife and wild places.
