A few years back, we built a bright and cheerful western style cafeteria. For children, that are more accustomed to eating outside rarely have used the space for it's purpose. Last year we improved our kitchen and created outdoor insakas (A traditional Bemba term for a "place to gather," typically structured as a circular, open-sided, thatched-roof gazebo). To fill the need for next year's classroom space, we're converting the building into multiple classrooms and storage space. This week we're highlighting the "Farm" ministry of Choshen Farm. Clara and the team is renovating livestock pens, hosting students from Fimpulu Christian School and gearing up for the annual bulk purchase of our community's grain crops this summer. 100,000kgs of Maize and 3,500kgs of Soyabeans purchased annually during harvest is split between the Farm for making animal feed, making mealie (used in Zambia's main dish, nshima) for Conferences and farm staff, and Fimpulu Christian for the feeding program.
