When Luke was born at SMH at just 29 weeks, weighing two pounds, his mom Rebecca had to wait five agonizing days just to hold him in her arms. After two months of round-the-clock care in our NICU, Luke went home—only to face another critical fight when a medical emergency brought him back, his heart stopping twice.

Today, Luke is a vibrant, dancing one-year-old.

✨💕 Durning Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sarasota Memorial’s Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute is proud to support "Chasing Dragons — Survival Was Just the Beginning,” a documentary following breast cancer survivors as they train to compete in the 2027 International Dragon Boat World Championships.

Led by Sarasota resident and 20-year breast cancer survivor Paula Murray, the film celebrates the strength, resilience and sisterhood of survivors while raising awareness about the importance of early detection and treatment.

🙌 Supporting initiatives like this reflects Sarasota Memorial’s deep commitment to educating and empowering our community and ensuring our neighbors have access to high-quality cancer care, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and survivorship.

As Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s fiscal year comes to a close, we share our appreciation and give special thanks to outgoing board members Robert Bartner, Diane Mayer, and Jonathan Mitchell for their dedicated leadership and service.

Together, Bob, Diane, and Jonathan have contributed decades of service across our board and committees, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment to our mission and vision.

We also remember and honor Joel Morganroth, M.D., whose passing earlier this summer was a profound loss to the Healthcare Foundation. His friendship, leadership, and dedication to our mission left an enduring mark on our organization and community.

We are immensely grateful to each of them. Their impact on Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation and the health of our community will be felt for years to come.
