💙 Congrats to Elizabeth Kovach, RN, board-certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and coordinator of Sarasota Memorial’s Forensic Program, who was recently honored with the 2026 SANE Award at the Florida Council Against Sexual Violence conference.

As Sarasota Memorial’s Forensic Program Coordinator, Elizabeth leads a team of more than 40 SANE-trained nurses dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered and trauma-informed care survivors need during a deeply challenging moment.

Elizabeth is quick to recognize the strength and courage of the survivors she serves. “Simply coming through that door and having the courage to ask for help can be an incredibly challenging experience,” she says. “Our first job is to make them feel safe and secure."

This National Cancer Survivors Day, the Healthcare Foundation is highlighting Ann's story of resilience and finding a steady anchor in her SMH cancer care team.

While navigating her recovery at Sarasota Memorial, the major surgical interventions were only part of the journey. True healing often lived in the quiet, everyday details—and the dedicated professionals who deliver them. Reflecting on her experience, Ann shared the profound impact of her cancer care team:

Sarasota Memorial has been named an American Heart Association All-Star Training Center? A prestigious distinction awarded to a select group of training centers that demonstrate exceptional performance, quality and commitment to advancing CPR and lifesaving education.

SMH's network of 172 instructors provides Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training, helping enhance confidence, improve readiness and empower learners with the skills that save lives.

🎉 Congrats to M. Blair Marshall, MD, FACS, thoracic surgeon with First Physicians Group and member of the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute on being named the recipient of the 2026 Morganroth Research Grant at this year’s Interprofessional Research Conference at the Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute!

👏 Out of several impressive submissions, Dr. Marshall's study stood out for its innovative integration of physiologic testing and artificial intelligence to advance lung cancer care. Her research will use physiological testing and AI-driven imaging to evaluate changes in lung function among patients undergoing lung cancer surgery. By assessing pulmonary function before and after robotic segmentectomy or lobectomy, the study aims to improve predictions of postoperative recovery and support more personalized treatment planning.
