🦅 Student-Led Birding at Jim Neville Marine Preserve!

Join us on Saturday, June 20th from 8AM–12PM for an easy-paced morning of birdwatching at the Jim Neville Marine Preserve. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, great horned owls, ospreys, frigates, and more — all while helping us track how our restoration efforts are changing bird activity in the preserve.

Kayaks available (limited spots!) or bring your own vessel. Shade, fans, and cold refreshments provided. Perfect for all experience levels! 🦉🌿

Ernesto and John attended the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program Midnight Pass Science Workshop last week, where John shared a brief presentation on our work at Jim Neville Marine Preserve. It was great to be part of the conversation, and the presentation was very well received.

Sam Bedgood also joined remotely to share his research on water quality and ecological conditions in the area of the recently reopened pass. We took part in engaging group discussions with scientists and partners working to better understand and protect the system.

One of the biggest takeaways was learning just how important the area around Jim Neville Marine Preserve is as critical habitat for manatees, dolphins, and fish, especially juvenile fish. Grateful and excited to be contributing to this important work for Sarasota Bay’s future.

Help restore 5 acres of vital native habitat by planting native flora, improving local trails, and removing marine debris—all while enjoying the natural beauty of the preserve.
