Congrats to Roni Hibben, 69, on breaking an AQUA Masters world record.

The Riptide Masters Swim member went a 30.45 in the 50 SCM freestyle to break the previous mark in the 70-74 age group. (Note: Eligibility for meters meets is determined by the swimmer’s age as of Dec. 31.)

“What an exhilarating surprise!” Roni says. “Upon realizing that I had set a world record, I felt an immense sense of gratitude for the opportunity. I appreciate how Masters swimming has positively impacted my overall fitness and health, and I thank my coaches and teammates for their support in helping me reach this milestone.”

From prank to a national championship swim!

When a friend posted a joke about Travis Smith entering USMS’s open water national championships in Sarasota, Florida, he decided to go ahead and enter. He ended up finishing seventh in the 50-54 age group with a time of 36:36.

”I jumped out of my comfort zone and did something I could never imagine doing a year ago,” Travis says. “Good things come out of your comfort zone.”

He’s used that mentality to completely transform his life over the past year. After discovering that swimming provided the perfect low-impact, full-body workout, Travis committed to swimming five days a week and ended up losing 160 pounds.

Congrats to Travis on an incredible journey!
