Mission San Rafael Rotary Club

Mission San Rafael Rotary Club The Mission San Rafael Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at San Rafael Joe's on 4th Street.

We belong to Rotary International, a member driven service group that helps communities at home and abroad. Found in almost every town in America and around the world, we pride ourselves on our motto, 'Service Above Self'. Putting time and money into projects, Rotary International continues to work on eradicating polio and building clean water projects all over the world. In the United States, local clubs support communities of their choice through volunteer time and financial donations.

It’s official… and now we have the sign to prove it! 🎉

The Mission San Rafael Rotary Club was honored to be recognized as one of the “Best Clubs” in Rotary District 5150 — one of just 6 clubs selected out of 40 throughout the district.

This recognition reflects the heart, dedication, and service of our incredible members, who show up again and again to support our community, local scholarships, service projects, and one another.

Thank you to every member who helps make MSRR such a welcoming, hardworking, and impactful club. We’re proud of what we accomplish together. ❤️💙💛

🌟 **Local Hero Spotlight: Ron Albert** 🌟

We were honored to welcome Ron Albert of the Sausalito Rotary Club to speak at Mission San Rafael Rotary on April 9. And what an inspiring visit it was!

Ron was recently named Rotarian of the Month for February 2026 by Rotary District 5150, and it’s easy to see why.

Over the past year, Ron has taken “Service Above Self” to an extraordinary level: traveling to Ukraine multiple times to support humanitarian relief efforts in active war zones. With no personal ties to the region, he answered a simple calling: to help.

🛠️ He assisted with clearing debris after missile strikes
🏠 Helped rebuild damaged homes
🚆 Traveled over 20 hours by train into uncertain conditions
🤝 Built connections with Rotary clubs in Kyiv

Ron didn’t just talk about service. He lived it, stepping into some of the most challenging conditions imaginable to support people he had never met.

His courage, compassion, and quiet leadership are a powerful reminder of what Rotary is all about. 💙💛

👏 Please join us in congratulating Ron Albert on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for representing the very best of Rotary in action.

🎉 Welcome to Rotary, Mary Jo Lafaye! 🎉

Last Thursday, February 12, the Mission San Rafael Rotary Club proudly inducted our newest member, Mary Jo Lafaye — and we couldn’t be more delighted to have her join us!

Mary Jo brings a heart for service and a passion for helping others navigate important life transitions with confidence and clarity. Her work centers on empowering retirees and older homeowners to make informed financial decisions, and she is known for her compassionate, educational approach.

But beyond her impressive professional background, we’re most excited about the energy, perspective, and commitment to community that she brings to our club. Rotary thrives when dedicated leaders step forward to serve — and we’re confident Mary Jo will make a meaningful impact through her involvement.

Please join us in giving Mary Jo a warm Rotary welcome! 💙💛

The Mission San Rafael Rotary Club is pleased to welcome two new members, inducted at our January 8 meeting: Cheryl Spott and Alyssa Crosby. We are delighted to have them join our Rotary family and look forward to the energy, experience, and service they bring to our club.

Cheryl Spott is a longtime Marin County resident with a diverse professional background and a strong commitment to community service. Her career spans decades in the commercial furniture industry, and she currently works as a Senior Area Manager at SMS, where she helps small- to medium-sized businesses improve profitability and plan for long-term success. Cheryl has an impressive history of volunteer leadership, including work with the American Cancer Society, The Leukemia Cup, and the Porsche Club of America. An accomplished sailor, pilot, and traveler, Cheryl brings both professional insight and a spirit of adventure to Rotary.

Alyssa Crosby is a recent Dominican University graduate with a degree in biology and a focus on pre-med studies. Since moving to Marin, she has been actively volunteering with local organizations and is excited to give back through Rotary. Born and raised in Chicago, Alyssa plans to apply to medical school in the fall and is passionate about service, learning, and community engagement. Her enthusiasm and commitment to youth and community service make her a wonderful addition to the club.

Please join us in extending a warm Rotary welcome to Cheryl and Alyssa—we’re so glad you’re here!

Mission San Rafael Rotary in Action 💙

Last Saturday, our club joined forces with Welcoming Home to help furnish a new apartment for a multi-family household that lost everything in the recent San Rafael Canal fires.

Through donations of funds, furniture, and household items, we helped transform an empty space into a true home — at no cost to the family. Welcoming Home’s mission says it best: turning an empty house into a home for the formerly unhoused, while keeping good furniture out of landfills and engaging the community in meaningful service.

A huge thank-you to project co-chairs Mike Green and Gary Pape, and to our hardworking volunteers Roy M., Barry, Maika, Mason, Gayle, Susanne, and Alysa for rolling up their sleeves and making a difference.

This is Rotary: local hands, big hearts, real impact. 💛✨

Today is World Polio Day.
For more than 35 years, Rotary and our global partners have worked tirelessly to eradicate polio — reducing cases by over 99.9% and protecting billions of children from paralysis.
We’ve come so far, but we’re not done yet.
As long as polio exists anywhere, it remains a threat everywhere. Together, we can end it forever.
