Lights, camera, leadership! ๐ŸŽฌ

This summer, a group of brilliant SHE-CAN Scholars stepped behind the camera to explore their identities, culture, and visions for the future through documentary filmmaking. Over two intensive weeks, these young women learned camera basics, collaborated on set, and transformed their personal stories into powerful tools for change.

Visual storytelling is leadership in action, and we couldn't be prouder of the courage and creativity these creators brought to the screen.

The entire collection from our 2026 Impact Summer in the US Program Scholar Screening is live on our YouTube channel right now. Head over to watch these inspiring future leaders share their voices with the world: https://bit.ly/4gkffA0

A very special thank you to our filmmaking instructor, . Smith Patrick, for guiding the Scholars through this creative journey. We also extend our deepest gratitude to the Smith Rafael Film Center and the California Film Institute for hosting the film screening and reception, as well as to our program sponsors: Torani, the Nancy & William Thompson Family Fund, and an anonymous donor for making this showcase possible.

Our recent early-career networking event, Power in Practice, was an evening full of inspiration, connection, and powerful stories! This SHE-CAN active networking training session focused on the tools for Building Connections and Using Networking to Be a Change Agent Across Industries, Governments, and Communities.

SHE-CAN Scholars, graduates and early-career staff had an incredible experience alongside The Posse Foundation, bringing together rising leaders and dynamic community partners. In addition to its young leaders, Posse was represented by Pantaleo, CDFA (Board Chair, Posse, San Francisco Advisory Board) and Sokenu (Posse, Director).

Huge thanks to J. Mitchell (Chair of LA Board of Supervisors) for delivering a powerful call to action challenging these young emerging leaders to stretch themselves as individuals and to value the power of coalition building for making change. Her uniquely tailored remarks included sharing personal stories from her own early career, as well as lessons learned from missed opportunities.

A heartfelt thank you to the Golden State Valkyries' leadership for showing up for the SHE-CAN Scholars:

๐Ÿ€ Serrano Valdehueza (GSV Sr. VP of Ticketing and Events) for delivering inspiring opening remarks that deeply resonated with everyone in the room. She wisely encouraged us to seek out peopleโ€™s stories and that the most meaningful connections begin with curiosity. Stories reveal who people really are - their resilience, their values, and what motivates them. It was such a powerful message for these emerging leaders, and for all of us.
๐Ÿ€ J. Clark (GSV Director of Community) for her energetic engagement directly with the scholars and sharing invaluable career wisdom.
๐Ÿ€ Washington (GSV Manager, Community Relations) for her seamless collaboration behind the scenes and bringing that special "surprise and delight" moment to life!

Partners like these remind SHE-CAN Scholars that their voices and journeys matter. ๐Ÿ’œ

A massive thank you to Veronne Clark, Trinity Monteiro, Tayllor Washington from the Golden State Valkyries, as well as their Impact Council and founding partners (CarMax, JPMorganChase, Kaiser Permanente, OLLY, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Rakuten, SEPHORA, United, & Waymo) for inviting SHE-CAN Scholars to an unforgettable game night! ๐Ÿ€

For the Scholars, the evening was about so much more than basketball. Seeing women compete at the highest level while surrounded by a community that actively invests in women's leadership was both inspiring and affirming. The Valkyries Rising theme perfectly mirrored our own journey, reminding the Scholars that they, too, are rising with a whole community cheering them on.

We are so grateful for partners who create life-changing experiences and advocate for young womenโ€™s leadership. Swipe through to see the joy, excitement, and gratitude from the night! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ‘‡

Innovation, technology, and global impact come together in this exciting new opportunity! ๐ŸŒโœจ

We're thrilled to celebrate SHE-CAN Scholar Vanika Sok (Nika) as she begins her internship as a Digital & Innovation Strategy (AI, GIS & Information Management) Intern with UNOPS (United Nations Office for Project Services) in New York City. ๐Ÿ—ฝ

As part of the Information Management and Analytics Team, Vanika will contribute to Compass, UNOPS' geospatial innovation and analytics initiative. Her work will support projects that use artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, geospatial data, and information management to improve decision-making and strengthen operations in conflict-affected communities. She'll also help develop communication materials, support digital innovation efforts, and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives across global teams.

These experiences are more than internshipsโ€”they're opportunities for our scholars to apply their skills to real-world challenges while building careers dedicated to creating meaningful change. Thanks to the generosity of the SHE-CAN community, scholars can pursue these transformative opportunities without the financial burden of travel, housing, and living expenses.

We're so proud of Vanika and can't wait to see all she'll accomplish during her time at UNOPS. Join us in wishing her an incredible internship experience! ๐Ÿ’™

Every donation helps open doors for scholars to gain hands-on experience, grow as global leaders, and bring their knowledge back to strengthen their communities.
