ON THE PLAYS:

'EDWARD III'

- Internationally renowned and award winning Bay Area playwright Octavio Solis presents his adaptation of EDWARD III – Directed by Karina Gutiérrez

Written after England’s victory over the Spanish Armada in 1588, Edward III follows the exploits of King Edward III and his son Edward, the Black Prince of Wales. England dominates on the battlefield as the play explores questions of kinghood and chivalry through the actions of King Edward and his son. Octavio Solis’s translation of the play provides all of the complexity and richness of the original while renewing the allusions and metaphors lost through time.

'SHINING SOMEWHERE'

-Sara Ilyse Jacobson's plays have appeared at the Capital Fringe Festival, Kennedy Center Page-To-Stage Festival, and Last Frontier Theatre Conference, to name just a few. She brings us SHINING SOMEWHERE – Directed by Lana Richards

Callie, an academic researching a story about the women of the Irish Republican Army, has loved Julian since they were kids. Since she can’t have him, Callie settles into a relationship with his lovelorn brother Aiden. Past, present, and Celtic myth intertwine as Callie’s source material is revealed to hit uncomfortably close to home.

3 Weekends. 6 New Takes On 6 Old Plays at Marin Shakespeare's Downtown Theater.

Marin Shakespeare Company, in partnership with Play On! Shakespeare, presents the second annual Seeds of Time Festival, featuring six new theatrical works and the playwrights bringing fresh voices, perspectives, and forms of storytelling to the stage.

Curated by AeJay Antonis Marquis, the festival runs October 3–18, 2026, at Marin Shakespeare Company’s downtown theater at 514 Fourth Street in San Rafael.

Over three weekends, six playwrights and creative teams will participate in intensive weeklong development workshops, Culminating in 2 public presentations of the work, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the plays during a vital stage of their development and to participate in conversations with the artists.

“Seeds of Time gives artists the room to take meaningful creative risks as they grapple with what “the classics” mean to their modern needs,” says Marin Shakespeare Company Artistic Director Jon Tracy. “We invite audiences into the process before the play is finished. This festival is not only about presenting new stories—it is about helping create the conditions in which new theatrical voices can grow.”

The six projects draw from Shakespeare, Greek drama, Celtic mythology, and Central and South American folklore while exploring contemporary questions of politics, displacement, war, identity, gender, wealth, family, and forgiveness.
“Seeds of Time creates space for artists to engage deeply with stories that have been inherited across generations—and to decide for themselves what should be carried forward,” said Festival Curator AeJay Antonis Marquis. “The festival centers playwrights and perspectives that have too often been excluded from the development of the theatrical canon.”

Each festival weekend will include two works in development, and opportunities for audiences and artists to gather and reflect together.

Alongside the well-established historical record about Shakespeare, a variety of alternative theories about the authorship of the plays have emerged—some widely disputed, others embraced by passionate advocates.

Marin Shakespeare Company invites audiences to explore this cultural debate through a FREE evening of theatre, historical inquiry, and conversation.

Featured guests Phoebe Nir and Robert Currier will present research and arguments associated with two alternative authorship theories involving Edward de Vere and Henry Neville. Actors will bring the conversation to life through scenes from Shakespeare’s Shadow, a new full-length play by Jared Randolph that explores the people, politics, secrecy, and extraordinary creative world surrounding the Shakespeare canon.

Marin Shakespeare Company is not taking a position on the authorship question. We’re interested in creating space for respectful dialogue, curiosity, and examination of the ideas presented.

Come hear the arguments. Ask questions. Debate. Join the conversation.

ADMISSION IS FREE.
