On May 12th, Parent Voices Marin parents and children traveled to Sacramento to join families from across California for Stand for Children Day. ✨
We marched together.�We joined the rally.�We connected with families from across the state.�And we spoke directly with elected officials to demand a better future for our children. ✊🏽

📰 Read all about it! Parent Voices is in the news! Thank you to reporter Ruth Dusseault for the story "Novato Expands Protections for Tenants Displaced from Condemned Buildings,” featuring PV Marin. On March 24th, PV Marin celebrated a victory with the displaced tenants of Romar Court apartments following the Novato City Council's approval of the “Just Cause” ordinance.

Last year in April, PV Marin jumped into action when they heard about the families forced to vacate from the Romar Court Apartment complex after the city "red-tagged" the building. People living there, who are primarily Spanish speakers, told PV Marin their requests for repairs were often ignored. Parent Voices Marin Parent Leader Vilma Monzon, a former tenant of Romar Court, spoke at the City Council hearing to support the ‘Just Cause’ ordinance.

“I always paid my rent on time, almost $3,000 each month for a two‑bedroom,” said Vilma. “When Romar Court received the red tag, my daughter and I were displaced. I want to be clear: I did not lose my home because I failed to pay rent or because I was negligent. However, there was negligence and that's why my family and many others are here calling for the approval of the ‘Just Cause' ordinance.”

The Novato City Council passed the “Just Cause” ordinance. PV Marin Organizer Amarantha Silva describes what it feels like to win the ordinance. “As a community organizer with Parent Voices Marin, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished alongside tenants over the past year," said Amarantha. "Together, Parent Voices transformed the displacement at Romar Court into a powerful, united movement for change.”

Parent Voices is grateful to the parent leaders who showed up in solidarity for the city council hearing.
