Multidisciplinary artist JG Everest composed and designed a series of site-specific sound and performance installations for sites and trails around Wild River State Park (MN State (Minnesota State Parks and Trails) for MNPAiR (Minnesota Parks Artists in Residence), Minnesota’s first statewide artist-in-residence program.

These “Sound Gardens” are outdoor spatial “symphonies,” played back through dozens of small speakers, each playing a different part of the whole piece of music and hidden amongst the trees and tall grasses in an immersive, dynamic experience. Every step, every turn of the head, every bird song and shifting breeze results in a different mix and arrangement of the music.

In this video, the artist describes his park residency, which included collaborations with other local artists and culminated with a four-weekend Festival Of Belonging that also included art-making workshops, yoga and Qi Gong classes, nature talks, and other interpretive programs.

The MNPAiR pilot united three state agencies, with 12 artists who engaged thousands of visitors across 13 parks in 11 Minnesota counties, demonstrating how artists strengthen belonging in the state's parks.

In a world trying to convince us we have less and are less, Ifrah Mansour invited people to seek refuge in nature and gather in joy, weaving, and beauty.

In this video from the MNPAiR artist, find out about her residency at Dakota County Parks. Hear directly from Ifrah about what she worked on with community: sharing time, fabric, spices, and stories together, creating a gallery of sculptures in nature, and more.

The artist's multi-site participatory public art project, Weaving Abundance, invited all people into a creative journey of interconnectedness—with land, with species, and with one another. Through this work, Mansour explores abundance in waste, in people, in ecology, and in our collective capacity to create beauty.
