Our friend and fellow NAWIC sister, Jen, is navigating breast cancer recovery — and the Midwest NAWIC region is ready to rally around her.

TWO days away from our self defense event in honor of Amber Czech, this is such a special event for our chapter, and we are excited to share in this experience with all of you!

❤️ April NAWIC Event: Self Defense Class in honor of Amber Czech ❤️

On April 16th, our chapter will be holding a self-defense class at Intertek in honor of Amber Czech. Amber was murdered at her workplace in a senseless act of violence. Every day we are reminded that Amber should be here with us, and we are working every day to prevent situations like this from happening in the future. We acknowledge that self-defense moves wouldn't have saved Amber and that there is still much work we must do in the construction industry on shedding light on mental health issues but any tool we can put in our toolbox is progress to a brighter future.

Schedule:

3:00–3:30 PM - Sign‑in/networking
3:30–4:00 PM - Opening remarks & chapter updates
4:00–5:00 PM - Intertek facility tour with heavy appetizers & beverages
5:00–6:00 PM - Instructor‑led self‑defense session
6:00–6:30 PM - Closing remarks

This event is free to attend; we ask that all attendees make a minimum $25 donation to the Alexandria Technical and Community College Amber Czech Memorial Scholarship. Please consider donating, even if you are not attending the event.

🚧 Build It Expo - Volunteers Needed! 🚧

Our chapter is partnering up with The Works Museum to bring another fun and hands-on experience for children 5-12 and their families!

This event is open to elementary school aged children interested in exploring construction and STEM activities. There will be live demos, activities and role model conversations with industry professionals.

⛄ WIC WEEK Recap: Polar Plunge ⛄

For the 2nd year in a row our chapter took the challenge and participated in the 2026 Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Minnesota. We had the greatest time supporting this cause and "freezin' for a reason" in 33-degree water! 🥶

Our chapter raised over $6,000 -- we are so honored to have support from all over our organization and cities! Thank you to everyone who donated or participated on behalf of our chapter, we are better because of all of you!

We got to meet other incredible people and spend time with our chapter members in a meaningful way.

🚧 WHAT A WEEK (Part 1) 🚧

Our chapter has been BUSY this week during Women in Construction Week, learning, laughing and having fun together! From panel discussions, jobsite tours and happy hours there was something for everyone.

We feel energized and thankful to be surrounded by such talented and amazing women in our industry in Minneapolis / Saint Paul. Highlights from the week featured here:

Each of these events were wonderfully hosted and allowed us to connect and reflect on our past experiences and what we are hopeful for in the future. We aren't done yet; we have more events to come today and tomorrow :)
