Provides visual arts education programs for K-8 students - check out http://www.artinaction.org/

This art program brings enjoyment to students and their families, focuses community excitement, and promotes future audiences and supporters of the arts. The Art in Action Program combines a sequential K-8 curriculum based on the art of the Great Masters and hands-on projects, lesson-specific art supplies, training of teachers and docents, the display of children’s art, and ongoing support for schools. Students become uniquely engaged and excited in learning through their own creativity. Open-ended discussions build their skills in observation, analysis, problem solving, collaboration, communication, and self-expression. Lessons build cultural appreciation and self-esteem, and integrate with other core subjects, including history, mathematics, science and literature.

🌼 Paper, petals, and new connections! 🧡

We had such a lovely time crafting cempasúchil (marigolds) with our nonprofit neighbors as we get ready for Día de los Mu***os. These bright golden flowers are said to guide loved ones home with their color and scent, and it was meaningful to make them together.

It was a wonderful excuse to get creative, share in a beautiful tradition, and get to know the people who make our community so special. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, folded, fluffed, and laughed with us! 🌼✨

🎨🍷 Paint, Sip & Connect — What a Fun Evening!

A little painting, a little sipping, and a lot of creativity and connection!

We had such a wonderful time welcoming guests to Art in Action for an evening of art, laughter, and good company. It was a great reminder that creativity isn’t just for kids — art brings people together at every age!

A special thank you to our wonderful board co-chairs, Susan Ball and Corinne Cho-Beaulieu, for hosting such a lovely evening, and to Whole Foods Market San Mateo for generously donating the delicious food for our charcuterie boards!

We’re proud to provide an Art in Action scholarship to Academy at Waterford Lakes After School in FL, bringing our new Beyond The Canvas art curriculum and materials to their 2nd–5th grade students! 🎨🌟

Youth Program Administrator Noralisa Diaz has brought so much enthusiasm and heart to the program, giving students a fun and meaningful art experience. We’ve especially loved seeing the photos she shares of students creating, experimenting, and proudly showing off their finished projects!

We’re grateful to support this wonderful group of young artists and thankful to all our awesome donors who continue to make the Art in Action Scholarship possible ❤️

For Hispanic Heritage Month, we are excited to feature one of our newest lessons, inspired by Ñuhu Otomí and Nahua artists 🎨

Amate painting is a collaborative Mexican folk art merging Nahua design with Otomí craftsmanship. While Nahua artists from Guerrero provide the vibrant scenes of village life, the movement relies on Ñuhu Otomí artisans in Puebla who create the bark paper using ancient Mesoamerican techniques. This tradition evolved in the 1960s when Otomí craftspeople began selling paper to Nahua painters at Mexico City markets.

Today, this celebrated indigenous craft supports both the Nahua painters and the Otomí families who transform fig tree bark into the foundational canvas for these rhythmic, globally recognized visual narratives. By combining Nahua storytelling with Ñuhu Otomí material heritage, this visual narrative preserves the shared history of two distinct indigenous communities.

In our new lesson, students study fiber-texture, contour, and blending/gradation — and create their own amate inspired artwork using pastels.

💛 A Day of Gratitude, Connection & Inspiration

On October 3, we had the joy of gathering with our Founders Circle community at Art in Action’s new home at Sobrato Center for Nonprofits in Redwood Shores.

The afternoon was filled with laughter, meaningful connections, and inspiring memories shared by our founder, Judy Sleeth. Guests toured our new space and saw artwork from our newest program, Beyond The Canvas.

For more than four decades, our Founders Circle members have believed in a simple but powerful idea: every child deserves access to high-quality art education. Their generosity, leadership, and partnership have helped Art in Action grow, evolve, and reach more than 91,000 students each year.

Thank you for believing in this work and helping make it possible. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Art in Action family. 🎨💛
