Join Thrive Alliance and ChooseChildren on Wednesday, September 16, 5:30–7:00 PM in Colma, CA, for Building Our Future Together: A District 5 Candidate Conversation on Community.

We're hosting this nonpartisan conversation because our nonprofit sector and the communities it serves deserve direct access to their future representatives. Too often, these conversations happen without the people most affected by them in the room. This event changes that.

Candidates for District 5 County Supervisor, Juslyn Manalo (Councilmember, Daly City) and Mark Nagales (Vice Mayor, South San Francisco), will share their perspectives on issues facing San Mateo County, including the sustainability of the nonprofit sector, emergency response, housing, and support for children and families.

This moderated conversation invites nonprofit staff, parents, and community members to hear directly from candidates and ask questions about what matters most to them. Spanish interpretation will be available.

Yesterday, Thrive Alliance joined the San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women for From Voice to Vote: Affordability at the Ballot Box, a meaningful conversation about women’s civic participation and affordability in our community.

We’re proud to spotlight Irma Zoepf, Chief Operating Officer at Thrive Alliance, for her leadership and work with the Commission on the Status of Women.

This year, Thrive Alliance member SamTrans is celebrating a major milestone: 50 years of connecting San Mateo County! Thank you to SamTrans for being a member at our Leadership Level!

SamTrans began service on July 1, 1976, when several local bus systems across the county were consolidated into one agency. The move gave the Peninsula something it hadn't had before: a unified, countywide transit system built around consistency and mobility for all.

The agency didn't waste time putting that vision into action. By 1977, SamTrans had launched service along the full length of El Camino Real, a corridor that remains central to its network today. That same era also saw SamTrans introduce paratransit service, a full 14 years before it became a federal requirement under the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was an early signal of the agency's commitment to accessible, equitable transit, long before it was mandated.

In the decades since, SamTrans has kept evolving alongside the communities it serves by modernizing routes, expanding service, and innovating convenient transportation throughout the Peninsula. That work continues today through the recently completed Reimagine SamTrans project, a systemwide initiative focused on improving reliability, access, and ease of use for riders across the county.

The numbers tell their own story: over the past 50 years, SamTrans has provided approximately 750 million rides throughout San Mateo County — half a century of getting people where they need to go!

Congratulations to SamTrans on 50 years of service, innovation, and commitment to our community. We look forward to the next 50 years of connecting the Peninsula.

Thank you to San Mateo County for bringing our community together for an important conversation about fair funding.

Thrive Alliance was proud to be there for Thursday’s County and City/Town Study Session and press conference on the longstanding Vehicle License Fee (VLF) funding shortfall and its growing impacts on our communities.

We appreciate the County’s continued efforts to keep local leaders, nonprofits, and community members informed as we work toward a sustainable path forward.

San Mateo County is facing a $226 million hit to essential services.

In the coming year, San Mateo County and its cities/towns are projected to lose nearly $226 million in Vehicle License Fee funding that the State is legally required to provide. Left unresolved, this could grow into a $1 billion crisis, cutting into shelter, food, mental health, and emergency services thousands of residents rely on. 55 of 58 California counties get this funding without interruption. San Mateo County does not.

On Sunday, August 2nd, a devastating six-alarm fire at Spinnaker Cove affected over 150 residents and left around 60 people displaced. While no residents were injured, four firefighters were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and burns.
