🇵🇭🌟MEET YOUR PRESIDENT🌟🇵🇭
I’m Barbara “Barbie” Malones Arellano, honored to serve as President of Davaoeños of California. My background in publishing spans more than 30 years, including my current role as executive editor. Over time, working across design, production management, and manuscript development has shaped how I approach leadership—centered on clarity, structure, collaboration, and the discipline it takes to bring ideas into action.

That experience informs my work as president, particularly in how we communicate, organize, and move initiatives forward with intention and consistency. It has also strengthened my appreciation for strong systems and thoughtful planning, especially in volunteer-driven organizations like ours.

Davaoeños of California has long held a special place in my life. My father was the organization’s founding president, and my mother also served on the board, making this community a lasting part of my story. To me, it represents friendship, shared purpose, and pride in our roots.

I’m honored to serve alongside an amazing board and look forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new members, and building a vibrant future together.

Afro Filipino Project: “New Voices” highlights four Afro Filipinx next-generation artists and their creative expressions. Backed by an ensemble led by music and artistic director John Calloway, featured artists Ting Alvarez, Umali Horne, Jasmine Miller, and Jojo Thompson will explore their identity and how it informs their creative work. Additionally, the ensemble will perform other works that honor legacy Afro Filipino artists and themes.

The Afro Filipino Project
The Afro Filipino Project was formed in 2022 as an interactive space for Afro Filipino, African American, and Filipino American artists to share and create various art practices that reflect our shared histories and self-expression. We provide an open forum and opportunities in all art mediums and practices.
