Five-year-old Mira needs emergency care for a serious but treatable condition. An East Jerusalem hospital is ready to treat her— she just needs permission. On June 8, 2026, her 11-year-old brother Seraj passed away from the same illness while waiting to be medically evacuated.
We have seen the consequences of this kind of delay before.
In March, five-month-old Baby Alma was accepted for emergency treatment at a Jerusalem hospital, and the U.S. Ambassador intervened to press for her evacuation. But it was too late. On March 24th, she died waiting. This should never happen again. 4,000 children like Alma and Mira await medical evacuation.

For most children, choosing what to eat is simple. For a child with PKU, it can be a difficult decision with serious consequences. A snack shared by a friend or a family dinner — these ordinary moments become complicated when a child must constantly worry about how much protein is in their food.
In Gaza, the struggle is even greater. Specialized low‑protein foods and medical formulas are unavailable, while the fresh vegetables these children rely on are unaffordable for their families.

Khallet Al Dabaa, a small village in the Masafer Yatta area of the South Hebron Hills, has persevered in the face of extreme settler violence after nearly 80% of the homes were demolished in May 2025. The village school is now at high risk of demolition, having received another demolition order in early August.

Earlier this week, Rebuilding Alliance’s team visited the village of Khallet Al Dabaa and guided children in making their Pinwheels for Peace. More than a dozen children joined this art project, which took place in one of the caves that people in the area have lived in for generations.

As part of our 10th Annual “I Care About Peace” Briefing: Palestinian Youth Speak About Peace with Congress, we held the first webinar on August 25th with Palestinian youth joining us from Gaza.
We were honored to be joined live from Gaza by Tariq and Talal.

Talal, a 20-year-old computer science student, shared his hopes for peace, cultural exchange, and a future where young Palestinians can pursue their dreams and connect with people around the world. He learned his English through the U.S.-supported English Access Micro Scholarship Program, progressing from a B1 to a C1+ level.

Tariq, Talal’s older brother and a 26-year-old computer science graduate, sees peace as something one creates through actions—not simply something we believe in. Through volunteering with humanitarian organizations in Gaza, he has found purpose in serving his community and supporting young people. Inspired by an eighth-grade teacher and the TV show Friends, Tariq developed a love for English and now speaks Arabic, English, French, and Turkish.

As part of our 10th Annual “I Care About Peace” Briefing: Palestinian Youth Speak About Peace with Congress, we held the first webinar on August 25th with Palestinian youth joining us from Gaza.
We were honored to be joined live from Gaza by Yazean, Lamar, and Ruaa

Yazan shared his vision of peace, one rooted in honest conversation, justice, equality, dignity, and freedom. Yazan had travelled to Chicago on a State Department program and experienced life outside Gaza, which strengthened his belief that travel and freedom of movement should be rights, not privileges.

Lamar shared her belief that peace and healing must begin with children and families, by restoring their homes, schools, safety, and hope for a better tomorrow. While living in northern Gaza in 2024, she taught herself English so she could tell her own story and speak for her community in her own voice. She holds on to hope by continuing to learn, staying active, and finding ways to help others.

Ruaa, a dental student and young community leader in Gaza, sees peace as creating spaces where people can speak, listen, disagree, and still recognize one another’s humanity. Her love of languages inspired her to teach herself English and continue learning other languages. She also founded a language and cultural community in Gaza City where young people strengthen their communication and leadership skills. Ruaa hopes her generation will be remembered not only for surviving war but also for helping to build a different future.
