So far in 2026 we have had 129 pro bono volunteers from 30 firms. More than 2,000 hours were dedicated to helping our neighbors access justice.

During this National Celebration of Pro Bono, we’re honoring the Legal Aid SMC volunteers who turn their legal skills into meaningful support for our community.

Their generosity and commitment have helped our clients stay safe, understand their rights, and move forward with confidence. Behind every hour of service is a person or family who has someone in their corner.

Congratulations to David Carducci, Legal Aid SMC’s Directing Attorney for Housing, on receiving one of San Mateo County’s 2026 Housing Hero Awards!

David and our housing team work every day to represent clients facing evictions, host community clinics across the county, and field hundreds of calls each month from individuals facing housing instability.

Last week members of our Immigration and Housing programs tabled at the Resource Fair in honor of Mexico Independence Day and Central American Independence Day.

We love getting the chance to directly help our community at events like these. Thank you to everyone who came out to the event and talked with our Legal Aid SMC staff!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for FallFest! We’re still feeling the energy from such a wonderful day and are so grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. It was amazing and encouraging to see so many people come out in support of Legal Aid SMC and our mission to provide free civil legal services to San Mateo County.

Thank you to everyone who attended our FallFest event this afternoon at Twin Pines Parks in Belmont!

It was a day of dodgeball, conversation, and justice. We are grateful to every member of our Legal Aid SMC community for their support. We promise we will continue working everyday to make San Mateo County equitable and just for everyone.

FallFest is less than one week away!! We cannot wait to see everyone next Saturday, August 29th, at Twin Pines Park in Belmont.

If you do not have tickets yet, they are still on sale and can be found at legalaidsmc.org/events. The price of a ticket includes dodgeball and other field day games, a catered dinner, drinks, and more!

Community connection matters, especially as families prepare for a new school year.

We were honored to table at the Immigration Forum and Community Resource Fair in Redwood City this past weekend, where we had the opportunity to connect with community members and share information about legal resources for families.

Thank you to Assemblymember Diane Papan and Senator Josh Becker for bringing the community together and inviting Legal Aid SMC to participate. We’re grateful to be part of this important work!
