PRESIDENT AENGHUS ASKS: “Who is ‘the right’ person to make decisions for the entire college?”

When President Aenghus spoke to PCC’s Board on September 17, they called out PCC’s unilateral moves with Workday and lack of collaboration on a recent Immigration Enforcement Notifications policy.

Aenghus said:

“PCC workers have become accustomed to PCC management and our Board making important, impactful decisions without a discussion and without a college-wide vote. We’re told there’s no time for democracy, and that union workers don’t have the expertise or education to understand the lofty ideas at hand.

“When Management and Board decisions lead to devastating, harmful consequences that impact our college, our students, our workers for years to come, we’re told those consequences were inevitable, or unforeseeable.

“Frustrating to hear, because which is it? Is PCC Management, or our Board, uniquely qualified to make big decisions — and worker involvement would lead to poor outcomes? Or are poor outcomes inevitable and unavoidable?”
