Lovely morning of birding in Woods Park! We saw and heard 16 species, including red-breasted nuthatch, white-breasted nuthatch, black-capped chickadee, chestnut-backed chickadee, house finch, lesser goldfinch, song sparrow, brown creeper, dark-eyed junco, northern flicker, red-headed sapsucker, Steller’s jay, Anna’s hummingbird, American crow, barn swallow - AND heard and saw a small flock of red crossbills! We hope to have another birding event soon.

Welcome to summer! We'll be hosting a Friends of Woods Park 'Nature Walk' on Saturday, June 27th at 10am.

We'll meet up at the Plum Trail - https://maps.app.goo.gl/haeTkmJJKAVKzdnr9 - and take about an hour meandering through the woods, looking for birds and animals along with admiring the plants and the recent trail work done by our amazing volunteers. We can also take this time to talk about the park and what you'd like to see happen here. All feedback is welcome!

Kids and dogs (on leash) are welcome! Bring binoculars if you have them.

Work parties won't start again until October, so let's use our summer time to just enjoy the park in all of its glory.

Work Party Reminder – Volunteers Still Needed Saturday, May 23rd - 9-Noon

Just a reminder that our May work party is coming up a week from Saturday and there are quite a few open slots remaining, so if you’ve been meaning to sign up, this would be a great time.

Our work parties are always a good chance to get outside, get things done together, catch up with neighbors and friends, make new friends and help keep Woods Park the gem it is.

Today it Earth Day LVII !!
Wikipedia says:
Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally through earthday.org (formerly Earth Day Network) including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

We had another great work party on February 28th with about a dozen volunteers. We planted over 220 native shrubs and plants. The weather cooperated with a dry morning at the end of a rainy streak.
We're looking forward to ivy pulling in March and trail work in April. Hope you can make it.
