The Global Business Travel Association - Oregon Chapter is a professional organization with goals to:

1) Provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between corporate travel personnel, travel industry suppliers, and regulatory agencies

2) Sponsor educational programs and speakers on travel related topics for employees of corporate travel departments and representatives of travel industry suppliers

3) Effectively voice the needs and advance the interests of business travelers

✨ Member Monday Spotlight: Nathan Carlson ✨

Nathan Carlson is the Area Director of Business Travel Sales for PM Hotel Group, where he supports business travel for four properties: Sheraton Airport, Aloft Cascade Station, Hampton Inn Portland Airport, and Cambria Hotel Portland Pearl. He also serves as Director of Sponsorships for GBTA Oregon.

Nathan was inspired to join GBTA 17 years ago when he began his career in hotels, with the goal of meeting people, learning about business travel, and building strong industry relationships.

GBTA has helped him grow by significantly expanding his professional network—not just in Portland, but across the U.S.—through opportunities like the GBTA Convention and Chapter President’s Council (CPC).

His favorite GBTA moment was attending his first convention in San Diego, where he experienced the most of the organization and saw how the Oregon chapter is part of a much larger global community.

His advice to new members: you get out of it what you put into it—get involved and take full advantage of everything the chapter has to offer.

He’s especially interested in the continued evolution of technology in travel and the role it plays in shaping the future of the industry.

✨ Member Monday Spotlight: Carole Astley ✨

Carole Astley is the Sales and Catering Manager at the Salem Convention Center, where she helps bring meetings and events to life in the heart of downtown Salem.

She was inspired to get involved with GBTA after the Salem Convention Center and The Grand Hotel in Salem were selected to host the 2025 Education Day. After attending her first meeting, she quickly fell in love with the people and the strong sense of community.

GBTA has helped Carole grow by connecting her with professionals across a wide range of organizations she may not have otherwise met. She’s enjoyed learning more about the business travel market, building supplier connections, and forming meaningful friendships along the way.

Her favorite GBTA moment so far was hosting the 2025 Education Day in Salem, welcoming attendees—many for the first time—and showcasing the city’s vibrant downtown and beautiful, connected meeting spaces.

Her advice to new members: keep showing up—every event brings new connections, insights, and opportunities to learn.

She’s especially excited about the trend of companies exploring new destinations and focusing on the full attendee experience, with places like Salem offering walkability, proximity to wineries, flexible meeting spaces, and great value just an hour from Portland.
