The City Repair Project We foster thriving, inclusive and sustainable communities through the creative reclamation of public spaces This leads to problems.

CITY REPAIR is a small grassroots non-profit that supports and inspires communities and individuals to creatively transform the places where they live. This process is PLACEMAKING

Community is the invisible web that holds us together. Over time and with the development of our cities and technology, society has become more and more isolated and that web has weakened. We provide support, resources, and opportunities to help your community reclaim the culture, power, and joy that we all deserve.

The Planning & Sustainability Office and City Repair invite you to join us on September 29, 2026, for a community Paint Day as we bring the brand-new, student-designed Montgomery Plaza street mural to life!

This placemaking initiative is keeping the student-led design process alive by continuing to have a vibrant, welcoming gathering place. The gorgeous new mural is designed by students Justice Ketcher, Mae Petit, and Sammy Won.

About the Artwork:

Interwoven is a 176x27 foot mural located in Portland State University’s Montgomery Street Plaza. Designed by PSU students Justice Ketcher, Mae Pettit, and Sammy Won, the mural weaves the plaza together into a space that encourages passersby to stay and linger. Reflecting on our shared experience of being welcomed as transfer students to PSU, the blooming, multicolored flowers woven throughout the mural represent how a university like PSU can offer opportunities for students to bloom into unique individuals. Like flowers, individuals who hold the power to reflect back into the world all the beauty they carry within.

Thanks to and for making this project happen!
