Gold Award Girl Scout Kaitlyn established a reading buddy program to improve early literacy. She recruited and trained a team of high school buddies and organized a program for first and second graders to read with a buddy once a week. Their teacher indicated that the program helped the students improve their reading skills. Kaitlyn trained two underclassmen to take over the program next year and talked about her program to a state-wide conference of high school student government officers.

Celebrate Kaitlyn and all of the 2026 Gold Award Girl Scouts at GOLD on June 16. Learn more and get tickets at girlscoutsosw.org/gold.

Gold Award Girl Scout Ella wanted to address the lack of representation in youth theater productions. In response, using criteria she vetted with theater professionals, she and her team created an online catalog of plays suitable for youth that tell stories from many different communities and backgrounds. She publicized her catalog during workshops at state thespian events, and the State Thespian Organization agreed to share her catalog, creating a state-wide resource for future productions.

Girl Scout volunteers help girls see their strengths and create moments that matter. And that starts with great support and resources to build their own confidence and preparedness! That’s why we’re so grateful to The Boeing Company for their support of our “Demystifying STEM” training for volunteers and middle and high school Girl Scouts. Through hands-on classroom experiences, these trainings build STEM facilitation confidence so more girls can explore STEM on their own terms. Find your next volunteer learning experience at girlscoutsosw.org/training!
