CITYHOPE CELEBRATES ONE YEAR 🥳🙌🎉
One year ago today, I resigned from my teaching career and started my first day at City Hope Center!!!!
We followed a dream God had placed on our hearts over two decades ago. I knew it was time, and with the support of Godly mentors and a business coach, we were able to launch a 501(c)(3) within six months!! As I prayed, I heard the Lord say “use a model that's already working and don't do it alone.” So, with faith, I ventured out on a new adventure!!
Life is short. I learned that in a very personal way when we lost my friend Ally after her long battle with addiction.
In April, we honored 30 beautiful lives lost at our Healing Hope Memorial. In our community, we have witnessed far too many lives lost too soon and have seen the pain, brokenness, and hopelessness that so many individuals and families face.
CityHope was birthed with a desire to bring hope, healing, and support to people who are hurting. With a BIG vision, I knew God was asking me to take a leap of faith to help address a problem that only He could truly heal.
Over the last year, I have watched miracle after miracle happen here at CityHope and our church, Sharpsburg Family Worship Center.
Our mission is being fulfilled every single day one life at a time. We have seen people changed for the good, families encouraged, children supported, and women take courageous steps toward healing and growth.
This year, more than 35 women completed A Time to Heal Beyond Survival healing classes. We recently launched the Women's Academy last month, and 16 women are already continuing their journey of spiritual and personal growth. We are excited to see what God has in store for each of them and many more women this year.
We also launched our after-school program, City Hope Haven (named after Ally’s daughter) this past school year, serving more than 1,000 meals and providing over 700 volunteer hours of mentorship and academic support for more than 40 children in our community.
And we are just getting started. This week we started our daily Summer breakfast and lunch program and in just one week, we will begin for our free Summer Day Camp, with almost 70 children already registered. Last year we served over 3,000 meals to local children. At Day Camp, children receive academic support, Biblical teaching, mentorship, friendship, and a safe place to learn, grow, and thrive.
My favorite part about day camp is watching kids learn Bible verses, sing worship songs, and learn to pray. They are learning to really trust God in their lives.
As we celebrate this first anniversary, I want to express my deepest thanks and appreciation:
First, thank you to my husband for his love and support and faithfulness to the church, and to my amazing children who serve with me. Your encouragement and sacrifice made it possible for me to follow this calling. I could not have done this without you.
Thank you to my amazing Board of Directors for believing in the vision of CityHope and helping guide us through this first year.
Thank you to our Beyond Survival team for investing countless hours into helping women heal and grow. We’ve added five new team members who have been trained and are ready to help women find real healing.
Thank you to our incredible staff members, Natalie Blatz, Emma Viale, and Kate Gordon. Your dedication, compassion, hard work, and belief in our mission have helped make CityHope flourish.
Thank you to our kind and dedicated volunteers, generous donors, churches, community partners, and supporters. We are so grateful for kingdom partnerships as we work together with one goal: to share the Hope of Jesus. Every meal that is served, every class that is taught, every child that is mentored, and every life that is touched has been possible because of your generosity and prayer.
Most importantly, Thank You God. God gets all the glory for making something that never existed possible! Thank You Lord for opening doors that no one could open, providing resources when they were needed most, giving us fresh vision and reminding us again and again that this is all for Him.
As we enter our second year, we are so excited for what is to come!!
We have a BIG vision with BIG faith that can only be provided by a BIG God.
If you would like to learn more or come for a visit, please connect with us! If you believe in our mission and would like to support the work we are doing, there are many ways to get involved. Whether through volunteering, financial support, partnerships, prayer, or simply sharing our story with others, you can help make a lasting impact in the lives of children, women, and families in our community.
We believe the best is yet to come, and we would love for you to be part of the journey. Join us as we continue bringing hope, healing, and opportunity to those who need it most.
Year one is complete! The best is yet to come.
Thank you so much.
With love,
Jamie Horne
