“Pennsylvania’s state budget cannot make up for huge cuts to federal SNAP funding that will shift these costs onto states,” Shapiro spokesperson Rosie Lapowsky said in a statement. “And those cuts risk leaving hungry Pennsylvanians without food assistance.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer says growing concerns over covering SNAP shortfalls mean states may need to pull money from other sources. Read more here:

Burdening states with increased financial demands is “catastrophic,” said St. Joseph’s University sociologist Maria Kefalas.

🚨SNAP enrollments continue falling nationwide as Republicans aim to root out what they call waste, fraud and abuse in food and healthcare programs and push people back into work.

SNAP recipients are now required to work, perform community service, or enroll in education for 80 hours a month. Advocates argue many recipients already work and depend on the aid to make ends meet. Taken together, tax cuts and program reductions mean fewer resources for lower-income people and more for higher earners. Hunger-Free Pennsylvania's partnership with DoorDash is helping deliver meals and essential groceries to seniors in need, expanding access to nutritious food for homebound older adults across the state.

đźš— DoorDash is marking with major milestones: 150 million meals delivered through Project DASH and the launch of new Food as Medicine grants to support nutrition-focused programs that improve health outcomes.

📍In Pennsylvania, HFPA has completed more than 350,000 deliveries via Project DASH, reaching homebound seniors in all 67 counties with nutritious options—ranging from fresh produce and pantry staples to prepared or medically tailored meals when needed.

This local effort is part of a much larger movement: Project DASH is now one of the largest social-impact delivery programs in North America, partnering with more than 300 food banks, pantries, healthcare providers, and community organizations to remove transportation and access barriers.

School districts across the country, like Erin Bronner's in Arizona, are worried about whether they can afford to keep offering universal free meals.

"Due to the dramatic decline in SNAP assistance, the percentage of eligible families [is] not high enough for us to be able to financially sustain operating this provision," Bronner says. "So we would actually lose money if we were to continue to operate CEP."
