Hello NYC Friends! Please join us on Wednesday, September 17th for a special FIGMENT NYC Edition of the NYC Burning Man Happy Hour!

FIGMENT started in 2007 in NYC, as a free, inclusive, open-to-everyone participatory art festival based on Burning Man's 10 Principles (with one added: Gratitude). FIGMENT spread to other cities, and has to date hosted over 80 free large-scale participatory festivals in 20 cities in 5 countries. Now it's time to reinvent FIGMENT in NYC. While we are hosting events in other places in 2025--Boston (7/19) and Toronto https://toronto.figmentproject.org/ (9/20-21), as well as our ALPHA event in MD (4/24-27)--we weren't able to have an NYC event this year. We're looking to build a new team, and a new vision for FIGMENT NYC 2026. Will you join us?

Where: Lucky, 168 Avenue B
What: FIGMENT, Burning Man, Principles, Art, Participation
When: Wednesday, September 17th, 6PM onward

FIGMENT Toronto is a free, inclusive, participatory arts event. FIGMENT's mission is to offer free, family-friendly and participatory art to entire communities.

Tonight 6-10pm. Let's interact

They told us there wouldn't be any sunshine yesterday and yet, the skies cleared. Today we may not be so lucky. Yuk-yuk. Interestingly there's a chance of rain but our little iPhone weather app doesn't specify when. Take along your umbrella just in case! If enough of us do, it won't rain at all! Rain or shine, we are here for you, serving up some of the cheapest h***h in the East Village. Your humble narrator is behind the bar, noon till 6, ready to pour you a frosty cold $3 pint of PBR (her favorite) and a $5 shot of well booze. There aren't too many places left where you can get those low prices. Believe us. We've searched! Anyway, come enjoy your scandalously inexpensive alcohol out in our lovely back yard, a little bit of zen in the bustling city. It's especially chill on weekday afternoons, when most people are at work. Our regulars love to read out there! Zero comes in at 6 for the last two hours of happiness and to slake the thirsts of the Burning Man Happy Hour crew. As it gets closer to the event, numbers pick up, and today they're holding a sign making workshop for Figment, the upcoming free arts festival. Put your creativity to work or just sip your drink and spectate. We're fans of sign making, as evidenced by the collection of playa signage decorating our yard. That yard is likely to be full of the burner curious if the rain holds off. And around 10, when all those dusty folks have cleared out, there should be plenty of elbow room for you to hang with our late night Weirdos and enjoy some palaver with Zero. We hope you enjoy a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

About the Oasis:
The Oasis offers weary travelers the chance to enter a special, liminal space, a haven unbound by the conventions and concerns of everyday living. It is a place devoted to experiencing care without any expectation of recompense; a place to rest, reflect and be unburdened. Along with your guide, Panacea, you will create your Boon, an extraordinary and unique gift to take with you when you reenter the world, and a reminder that you are loved.

About Jess (artist's statement):

As a child, Jessica remembers lying awake at night, thoughts whirling, unable to understand how human beings could act so differently from one another. How could one human being perform stunning acts of selflessness and another, with 99.9% of the same DNA, commit atrocities? It seemed an impossible puzzle. Jessica grew to study psychology, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University. This provided some clues to how to understand her questions, but she became convinced that more needed to be done to provide alternatives to the relentlessly negative and cynical perspectives found so frequently in the mainstream. It was not enough to say that dwelling in a kinder mental, social and cultural space was possible; experiencing the caring was much more meaningful. She became convinced that the powers of awe, wonder and mystery are key to creating this new world.

Jessica’s art captures her audience’s minds and imaginations, opening them to their inherent potential for greater compassion, empathy and connection.

What is FIGMENT?

FIGMENT is a forum for the creation and display of participatory and interactive art by emerging artists across disciplines. FIGMENT began in July 2007 as a free, one-day participatory arts event on Governors Island in New York Harbor with over 2,600 participants. Since then, FIGMENT has grown significantly each year in number of projects, duration, participants, volunteers, fundraising capability, exhibitions, locations, overall level of commitment and participation, and public support.

FIGMENT’s vision for art looks past the white-walled galleries and into the realm of participation. Art is not just something that you stand still and quietly look at–it is something you participate in. You touch it, smell it, write on it, talk to it, dance with it, play with it, learn from it. Interactive art creates a dynamic collaboration between the artist, the audience and their environment.

FIGMENT’s goal is to advance social and personal transformation through creativity, in the form of free participatory arts events and exhibitions. FIGMENT is uninterrupted by commercial sponsorships, transactions, or advertising. Selling or advertising goods or services is not permitted. Neither our artists nor our planners and staff are paid: everything that you see at FIGMENT is born from a simple desire to share imagination with each other and the public.
