Does your human services nonprofit have City and/or State contracts? If so, take ~20 minutes to rate City and State agencies on your procurement experience through HSC’s GovGrader survey today.

Chronically late payments continue to jeopardize nonprofits, their workers, and communities receiving services.

As the Mamdani administration begins tackling these issues, and contracting reform makes waves in the State Legislature, take our survey to make sure leaders hear directly from our sector, hold agencies accountable for equitable partnership, and shape the future of procurement: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8864564/GovGrader-Survey-2026

“It’s human services workers and providers that make New York affordable for so many people. And if the mayor wants to make New York affordable, he has 80,000 workers that he pays under human services contracts.” - HSC’s Executive Director Michelle Jackson 👏

A recent feature from NYCETC spotlights the Campaign’s “Equal Work, Equal Wages” rally, which brought 2,000 advocates from 90+ nonprofits to rally for wage equity for human services workers.

This line says it all! 👆The human services sector has real power, and we’re using it to demand wage equity for the workers who keep NYC running.

On May 14, the Campaign held our “Equal Work, Equal Wages” rally, bringing together 2,000 advocates from 90 nonprofits across the five boroughs around one collective message: nonprofit human services workers deserve the same pay as their City counterparts for the same work. 📣

Together, we raised our voices to demand that and pass Int 0452, which would help close the 30% pay gap between nonprofit and City human services workers.

THANK YOU to the human services workers and leaders who came out to build power with us, to the volunteers who made our rally possible, and to , , , , , , , and for showing up in solidarity. 🙏

Look out for more ways to support Int 0452 and the fight for long-term wage equity for nonprofit human services workers. 👀

Human services workers at University Settlement Society of New York help New Yorkers live and learn in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn. Although they are essential to the fabric of our communities, the State doesn’t show them the same care in their paychecks. 💵

Governor Kathy Hochul - Mark and all human services workers deserve livable wages. This year, a 4% investment is the minimum that programs need to help wages keep up with inflation.

We join so many across our community in mourning the loss of Fred Shack, former CEO of Urban Pathways and a close friend, trusted partner, and fierce advocate.

As a member of HSC’s leadership for several years, Fred had an unwavering commitment to serving not only those who walked through the doors of Urban Pathways, but the entire human services sector. He drove the creation of the Campaign, throwing all his might behind our collective efforts to pay human services workers the wages he knew they deserved. He also served on several advisory boards, showing us all how to navigate the inside and outside, while remaining steadfast in our values.

Our advocacy is stronger because of Fred’s passion and expertise. He was, and is, the best of what our sector has to offer to those who need us most.

Our heart goes out to Fred, his family, and the team at Urban Pathways. We know Fred’s inspirational legacy will continue to shine through all the lives he has touched across our sector and communities.

No excuses Governor Kathy Hochul! When people do essential work, they deserve to be paid fairly.

A 4% investment for all human services programs is the least our sector deserves to help wages keep up with inflation.
