One family. One crisis. One fresh start. đź’ś

When a fire displaced a 16-year-old student and his family from their home, they returned to New York so he could take his AP exams and moved into a temporary, unfurnished apartment.

At the time, the family was sleeping on the floor, which was especially difficult for the student as he recovered from recent surgery. We were able to help provide the essentials they needed to make their temporary space feel a little more like home — including beds, mattresses, bedding, towels, and a kitchen table and chairs.

This is just one of the families we’re grateful to support throughout the year. Thanks to our community, we’re able to step in when NYC public school families face unexpected moments of crisis and help provide what they need to move forward. 💜

🎒 Help a NYC student start the school year with confidence!

We’re proud to share that a local backpack drive is supporting Operation Backpack, a program of Volunteers of America–Greater New York that provides backpacks and school supplies to NYC students experiencing homelessness.

A backpack can be more than a school supply—it can mean belonging, confidence, and a fresh start. 💜

You can help by donating a new, standard-size backpack in person or making a direct donation to help purchase backpacks and essential school supplies.

📍 Drop-off: Actors’ Equity Association, 165 W. 46th St., 4th Floor Sky Lobby
📅 Today is the last day! 8 AM–6 PM

Every backpack helps a young person head into the school year feeling prepared, supported, and ready to learn. 🎒✨

A new home deserves a fresh start. đź’ś

After experiencing housing instability, this single parent and her little ones have recently moved into permanent housing. A new chapter is beginning—but starting over comes with plenty of needs, especially when there’s a baby involved.

Through our Crisis Response program, we’re helping provide the essentials to make this new space feel a little more like home: 🍼 Baby items 👕 Baby clothing 📚 Books and 👟 Shoes for her elementary aged child.

We’re grateful to the school community at PS 84 for reaching out and helping connect this family with support.

Because a new set of keys is just the beginning. Every family deserves the chance to build a safe, comfortable home. đź’ś

Some losses change everything.

After losing their mother, these two brothers have been navigating life on their own.

A former social worker from their school reached out after learning they were struggling to put food on the table. Their apartment’s electricity had been shut off because of unpaid bills, leaving them without a working stove. They’re relying on a shared microwave in their NYCHA building to prepare meals.

Through our Crisis Response program, we were able to provide:
đź›’ A shopping cart
🥫 Non-perishable groceries
🥛 Perishable food that could be safely prepared and stored

No one should have to face grief and hunger at the same time. đź’ś

Messages like this mean the world to us. đź’ś

We’re honored to support families whenever and wherever we’re needed, and we’re incredibly grateful to the school social workers who trust us to stand alongside them. Every thank-you reminds us why this work matters—and every act of generosity from our community makes it possible.

Thank you for helping us bring hope, dignity, and essential support to NYC families. We couldn’t do it without you.

After five moves in just three years, this father and his 7-year-old daughter have finally found a place to call home.

For the first time in years, they have the keys to their own apartment. But they’re still sleeping on air mattresses.

The Sled provided two solid beds and mattresses along with bedding/pillows.

A fresh start means more than four walls—it means a safe, comfortable place to rest and begin rebuilding.

Because every child deserves more than just a roof over their head—they deserve a place to dream.

This family was relocated to a new shelter over the summer following the closure of the Herc shelters. Shortly after, the mother was left to care for her children on her own, without a support system in the city.

Through our crisis response, groceries and clothing were provided to help ease the burden during this transition.
