Today is , a time for us all to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history. Originally coined as Women’s History Day in 1978, the celebration was transitioned to a full month in 1987 – soon gaining global recognition. This year’s theme is Break the Bias, and you can learn more about it here: https://www.internationalwomensday.com/Theme

To further reflect on Women’s History Month and to celebrate the amazing women that work here at SEO, we have Samantha Roa, Assistant Director for , as our feature:

“Women’s History Month is a celebration of some of the great leaders and change-makers in our history, women who pioneered, persevered, and proved wrong their contemporaries and doubters alike. These women in history are truly inspiring but I would also like to reflect on some of the amazing women in my life. My mother, grandma, aunts, and great aunts. All strong, hard-working, resilient, nurturing and loving. They would never admit it or see it as anything special…they did what they felt was necessary. Without question or needing to be told. Women are often overlooked for the endless tasks that they do and obstacles they face; work full-time jobs, then go home to take care of their families full-time, maintaining the household, etc. This Women’s History Month I want us all to remember the true unsung heroines of our lives and share our gratitude to the women in our lives who shaped who we are.”

Thank you, Samantha, for sharing your story with us. We encourage you all to celebrate Women’s History Month this March.

Please join us in highlighting SEO Scholar, Osayamen O., who was featured in the NY Times! Osayamen's art piece “The People Within Me” was chosen to showcase what "It’s Like to Be a Teenager Now."

"I created this piece in my bedroom to give life to the many versions of myself, which I had battled losing, or fought to keep, throughout this last year and a half. The basketball player who was lost, due to a lack of time and resources. The student who holds onto her grades and academic hopes because they are all she has. The tired teen who collapses on her bed every night because she can’t continue the fight against her body and mind. Then, finally, the pressure of being a Nigerian daughter who is trying to please her mother and make her family proud."
