We are heartbroken, again to see another shooting at an elementary school.

To the families in Bend, Oregon: we see you, we mourn with you, and we will not look away. These tragedies need to end, and we call on elected officials to take real action to end gun violence.

Hispanic Federation joins the Central Oregon community in sorrow and in outrage. We demand real action to prevent gun violence — action that matches the scale of this grief.

Today is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day!

On October 13, community leaders, elected officials, health advocates, and service providers gathered at New York City Hall to kick off the observance, with this year’s message: “Knowing Your HIV Status Is a Good Place to Start.”

Did you know that Latino New Yorkers represented 42 percent of the city’s new HIV diagnoses in 2023, while Black New Yorkers represented 41 percent?

Testing is the first step towards prevention, treatment and care, that truly meets our community where they are. At Hispanic Federation, we’re doubling down to make sure every Latino family has the information, resources and culturally responsive care they need to stay healthy and overcome barriers to care.

We know this post might make you hungry!

We asked our HF staff to share their favorite dishes and the traditions that connect them to their cultures, and the answers did not disappoint.

We couldn’t fit them all in one carousel! Honorable mentions go to: hallacas, pastelón, ceviche, asopao, bandeja paisa, and lechón.

We’re not trying to start a debate, but we have to ask: Who makes the best sancocho and is Puerto Rican mofongo taking the crown? 👀

Today at Hispanic Federation, we brought together New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, our President and CEO Frankie Miranda, and approximately 60 community partners for a conversation on the issues that matter most to Latino communities across the five boroughs.
The conversation addressed key issues affecting Latino communities, including immigration enforcement, community safety, housing affordability, health care access, education, and economic opportunity.
As we celebrate , Hispanic Federation remains committed to ensuring our communities are heard and their experiences inform the policies shaping our city. Thank you to Mayor Mamdani and all our community partners for joining us in this important dialogue.

What does it take to build a city that works for all New Yorkers? It starts with listening to the heart of its communities.

Hispanic Federation President and CEO Frankie Miranda and Zohran Kwame Mamdani joined more than 60 leaders from across the five boroughs to discuss the issues affecting Latino communities and the importance of keeping community voices at the center of the conversation.

Yesterday, as families courageously shared their testimonies at Hispanic Federation’s People’s Hearing on Immigration Enforcement in New York, ICE agents surrounded a man in his car in Marble Hill and opened fire, with his five-year-old son inside the vehicle.
Firing into a vehicle with a child inside is reckless, indefensible, and a danger to everyone. ICE continues to spread terror across our communities, with an appalling disregard for human life.
Hispanic Federation demands an end to all ICE enforcement operations in our communities and calls for an independent investigation into this shooting and every instance of excessive force and misconduct by federal agents. These operations instill fear, undermine trust, terrorize families, and tear communities apart. Enough is enough.

Our deepest gratitude to our panelists, those who bravely gave testimony, and observe today's the People's Hearing in New York City. We are emboldened by the solidarity of state and city officials, non-profit partners, and community members speaking out against injustice.

Thank you to today's moderators Frankie Miranda, President and CEO, Hispanic Federation, Rochelle Garza , Chair, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and Marty Castro, Former Chair, United States Commission on Civil Rights for facilitating today's powerful testimony.

Thank you to our national partners Miranda Family Fund, Texas Civil Rights Project, and Latino Victory as well as to our local steering committee members. Arab American Association of New York, Asian American Federation, Central American Refugee Center (CARECEN NY), Community Resource Center (CRCNY), Haitian Bridge Alliance, Immigration Equality, Make the Road NY, MinKwon Center 민권센터, National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), New Immigrant Community Engagement (NICE), New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU), and The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC).

Together, we brought together powerful testimony to illustrate why we must do more to protect our neighbors and create a more inclusive city where immigrants can thrive and raise their families in peace.
