SNL NIGHTS ARE DIFFERENT.

Tonight was one of those nights that reminds us exactly why we created this space.

Our BASE youth came together for an intense team Kwanzaa Trivia Challenge, putting their knowledge to the test while learning more about the principles, history, meaning, and purpose behind Kwanzaa.

Competition was serious. The energy was high. And underneath all of the fun was something even more important.

Culture being learned. Culture being understood. Culture being carried forward.

We also continued creating The Blueprint, our ongoing art project giving our young people an opportunity to express who they are, where they come from, what matters to them, and what they envision for themselves and their community.

And because it wouldn’t be SNL without community, there was plenty of laughter, games, friendship, connection, and some incredible food from The Backyard .

This is what Saturday Night Live at BASE is about.

Young people learning together.

Creating together.

Eating together.

Laughing together.

Building friendships.

Building confidence.

Building culture.

Building community.

Sometimes the most meaningful learning doesn’t happen sitting behind a desk.

Sometimes it happens around a table surrounded by friends, answering Kwanzaa questions, creating art, sharing a meal, laughing until your stomach hurts, and simply having a place where it feels good to belong.

Culture. Connection. Creativity. Community.

What a night.

This is SNL. This is BASE.

A thriving community is when it feels good to be home.

Community looks good together.

Today, BASE is proud to be out at the Multicultural Fair celebrating the people, cultures, traditions and organizations that make our community what it is.

Days like today are about more than booths, food and entertainment. They are about connection.

They are about learning from one another, celebrating what makes each of us unique, supporting local businesses and organizations, and creating spaces where everyone has an opportunity to feel seen, valued and welcomed.

We love seeing so many cultures, generations and walks of life represented in one place — and we’re grateful that BASE gets to be part of it.

Different cultures. Different stories. One community.

Come by, say hello, connect with us and enjoy the Multicultural Fair.

This is community. This is belonging. This is BASE.

Creativity with a purpose.

Today, our BASE youth turned art class into something bigger than art.

They painted, created, experimented, laughed and made pieces that were completely their own. But what makes this experience especially meaningful is what comes next.

Our youth will be creating artwork to give to elders living in local care homes.

Young hands creating something special for another generation.

That’s creativity. That’s connection. That’s community.

At BASE, we want our young people to know that what they create matters and that they are never too young to use their gifts to bring joy to someone else.

Create something. Give something. Make someone’s day a little brighter.

This is BASE.

Music. Sound. Creativity. Opportunity.

Today was day one of BASE’s new music program, and our youth jumped right in.

They explored how sound systems work, learned about cables and equipment, connected the pieces themselves, stepped inside a recording studio, and even recorded one another in the booth.

And, of course, they brought the BASE Pledge into the studio.

This is what exposure looks like.

Giving young people the opportunity to touch the equipment, learn the technology, discover new skills and see themselves in spaces they may have never experienced before.

Today they learned about sound.

Tomorrow, who knows what they might create.

BASE building opportunity, confidence and possibility through experience.

Culture you can learn. Creativity you can hold.

Today, BASE youth spent the day creating at Talent Maker City learning the art of screen printing and visual journaling while connecting creativity to culture.

For screen printing, our young people worked with a design centered around Kwanzaa and its seven principles, bringing together culture, art and a hands-on skill they could experience from beginning to end.

They didn’t just look at a finished product.

They colored. They designed. They worked with the screens. They pulled the ink. They watched their ideas become something tangible.

And through visual journaling, they had another opportunity to explore something we believe is incredibly important for young people: the ability to express what they see, think, feel and imagine.

This is what we want our youth to experience.

Opportunities to learn new skills.
Opportunities to understand their culture.
Opportunities to create.
Opportunities to discover something they may be great at.
And spaces where their ideas and identities have value.

Because creativity isn’t just about making art.

It’s about realizing that you have the power to make something that didn’t exist before you created it.

A huge thank you to Talent Maker City for continuing to create meaningful, hands-on experiences for our young people.

Culture. Creativity. Identity. Opportunity.

This is BASE.
