🎉 What an incredible day at the Rogue Valley Manor!
Recently, Community Volunteer Network's amazing SHIBA volunteers helped support what we believe may be the largest Medicare 101 presentation ever given in our area. Over a hundred residents had the opportunity to learn valuable information about Medicare, ask questions, and connect with trusted resources that can help them make informed healthcare decisions. 👏💙
What is SHIBA?
The Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) program is a free service through the Oregon Department of Human Services. SHIBA is a statewide network of trained volunteers who educate, assist, and advocate for people with Medicare, helping them understand coverage options, enrollment periods, prescription drug plans, Medicare Advantage plans, Medigap policies, and more.
What is SHIP?
SHIBA is Oregon's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). SHIPs are federally supported programs that provide free, unbiased, one-on-one Medicare counseling and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their families.
Residents left with greater confidence in navigating Medicare and knowing where to turn for reliable, unbiased assistance. Events like this demonstrate the tremendous impact SHIBA volunteers make in our communities every day.
A huge thank you to our dedicated SHIBA volunteers for sharing their knowledge, compassion, and commitment to helping older adults access the information they need to make informed healthcare decisions. 🌟
▶We need more SHIBA volunteers, no experience needed!

From the SHIBA office Oct 2026:
You can call the statewide SHIBA line at 1-800-722-4134 Monday through Friday. When prompted, don’t enter your ZIP code. You’ll be connected with a state SHIBA counselor who can help you over the phone. Due to high call volume and a small team, wait times may be longer than usual, but calls are answered as soon as possible.
You can also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) for help with your Medicare questions. They're open 24/7 (except for Thanksgiving and Christmas).
