Our daily huddle is a time for our team to connect, share, and prepare for the day ahead. This week, we were excited to welcome Lucy Houghton, who joined us to talk about courageous leadership. We’re excited that Lucy will be working with our team through leadership coaching in the months ahead. We’re looking forward to learning, growing, and becoming even stronger leaders together.

Thank you, Lucy, for spending part of your day with us and sharing your story and insights with our team!

“When I first got here, I used to say baby steps. And now with the help of Golden Rule, I’m leaping.” - Terrance Clemens

Terrance’s story is one of resilience, transformation, and the power of believing that your past does not have to determine your future. After years of addiction, incarceration, and hardship, Terrance discovered the tools of mental toughness and today, he’s using those same tools to help others find their own strength and purpose.

From a thought he had while incarcerated about teaching mental toughness to now leading a class at Golden Rule ReEntry, Terrance is living proof that change is possible and that sometimes the right support at the right moment can help turn pain into purpose.

We are honored to share his story 💛

We are grateful for every opportunity to learn from our reentry partners, grow together, and strengthen the work we do in our communities.

Last week, members of the Golden Rule ReEntry team had the opportunity to participate in a reentry workshop hosted by Sponsors, Inc. in Eugene. With more than 50 years of experience supporting people returning from incarceration, Sponsors Inc. shared valuable insight, knowledge, and lessons learned from decades of doing this work.

Thank you, Sponsors Inc., for welcoming us 💛

At Golden Rule ReEntry, we believe wellness is an important part of recovery. Every Friday is a chance for a group of our participants to get outside together, enjoy some fresh air, build community and just have fun.

Last Friday, our GRR participants spent the day swimming, floating, laughing and playing in the river. For some, it was a chance to reconnect with something simple that can get lost along the way...the freedom to just have fun.

As one participant shared, “I never knew how good it is to go to the river and be sober and clean.”

That’s what GRR's Wellness Fridays are all about, creating space to experience life, build community, and rediscover the joy that recovery can bring. Sometimes, wellness is simply remembering how good it feels to play.

We had a wonderful turnout for the first class in our new Golden Rule ReEntry Civics Series: Get to Know Your City. Our participants and staff came together to learn more about how the City of Medford works, how local government impacts our community and how each of us can have a voice in the process.

A special thank you to Medford City Councilors Jessica Ayres and John Quinn for joining us and sharing their knowledge and experiences with our group. Your time and willingness to engage directly with our participants made this class truly meaningful.

And we didn’t stop at the classroom! Afterward, our group attended a Medford City Council meeting, giving participants the opportunity to see city government in action and experience civic engagement firsthand. It was a powerful reminder that democracy works best when people are informed, involved, and connected to their community.

Thank you Jackson Care Connect for believing in the work being done right here in our community. 💛

Golden Rule ReEntry is honored to be among this year’s grant recipients and deeply grateful for the support that helps us continue creating pathways to stability, opportunity, and successful reentry. This funding will help pay for renovations to GRR’s first ever women’s transitional house…opening in Spring of 2027!

Jackson Care Connect interviewed Brandi Ferreira, GRR’s Career Pathways Case Manager, and Abigail Lewis, our Founder and Executive Director. To read the full article please click JCC’s post below.

This year, we awarded grants to 28 local nonprofits working to improve access to health care, housing, behavioral health services, recovery support, food security and more across Jackson County.

These investments reflect priorities identified by the community. With guidance from local voices and the Jackson Care Connect Community Advisory Council, we’re supporting local organizations that understand our communities and are building solutions for better health and long-term stability.

We’re so grateful that we could partner with Opportunity Oregon and Provoking Hope during our visit at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. It was heartwarming to hear the story of one of the men who was inspired to write this poem during the presentation.
