“5 more minutes!” “Time to stop.” If game time at your house sometimes ends in frustration, you’re not alone. 🎮
At Be Peace – Be Hope, we’ve spent more than a decade helping young people and families work through hard moments with care. Here’s one of the tools we share, adapted for game time.
Choose a calm moment, not the middle of a game. Start by listening: ask what they love about the game, and give them time to answer. Listening helps you understand each other’s needs and agree on a clear, predictable plan.
When it’s your turn to talk, try these four steps together:
1️⃣ Say what you saw: “Last night, you were still playing after 8, and we’d agreed to stop then.”
2️⃣ Say how you felt: “I felt worried because it was late on a school night.”
3️⃣ Say what you need: “Sleep matters to me, and I want to help you get enough rest for school.”
4️⃣ Ask, and offer your part: “Next time, I’ll give you a five-minute heads-up. Can we agree on a good stopping point?”
Close by thanking them for talking with you. 💚

Listening, expressing feelings, and asking for help are at the heart of EsperHope™, a project co-created with young people to connect play, life skills, and real-world solidarity. Grow together, on screen and beyond. Our playable demo is coming at the end of October!
