Training up-and-coming local surgeons is key to how we operate. The volume of kids with correctable disabilities is higher than any one surgeon can treat, but if this one surgeon trains another surgeon, then these two surgeons can train two more surgeons. Then these four surgeons can train four more surgeons. And so on and so forth. Training has this multiplicative effect that will, Lord willing, get us to the point where there are enough surgeons that no child will needlessly live with a treatable disability!

Four years ago, Claire John was just your regular young, playful little guy. But one day, while playing at school, he got knocked over and broke his arm. Without access to quality medical care near his home, Claire John's arm healed incorrectly in a painfully overextended manner. Simple things like getting dressed became a struggle, and other children began teasing him because of how his arm looked.

His mom, Annie, knew Claire John needed surgery, but when they sought help, they were devastated to learn it was far more than they could afford. Yet every day, Annie prayed that God would work a miracle in their life.

That modern-day miracle came through an unexpected conversation with a customer who told Annie about Tebow CURE Philippines. Though the journey to the hospital was long and unfamiliar, Annie gathered her courage, trusted God, and brought her son for treatment.

Because of sponsored surgery, Claire John's arm has now been corrected and straightened.

The difference is life-changing.

Instead of struggling with everyday tasks, Claire John can now use his arm freely. He can hold a pencil and draw, participate in school activities, help his family at home, and enjoy the simple joys of childhood without pain or embarrassment.

Surgeons rightfully get a lot of credit for the life-transforming surgeries they perform, but the truth is, they couldn't do what they do to the level they do with stellar teams assisting them. From anesthesiologists to nurses to couriers, it's a team effort to get one of the patients entrusted to our care in and out of the operating room safely and successfully.

Not too long ago, six-year-old Chisomo couldn't walk. Due to a sickness when she was a toddler, Chisomo's feet had twisted inward, turning to clubfoot, and robbing her of her ability to walk, run, and play as kids should.

Her family began searching for help for Chisomo, pawning possessions and even selling some of their livestock to afford the expensive transportation and appointment costs. Thankfully, before too long, they ended up at CURE Malawi, where Chisomo was treated for both the underlying illness and had her clubfoot corrected!

This little girl, whose name means "Grace," is now standing tall, running, playing, and smiling from ear to ear - just like all six-year-old girls should be!
