Correcting a child’s life-limiting clubfoot or bowed legs doesn’t happen with only a little scalpel in the hand of a single surgeon (although that is a part of it). Life transformation requires a highly-skilled team with highly complex imaging equipment, specialized implants, and sterile instruments. The level of care that we provide to these kids, in some of the most difficult to access countries in the world, isn't easy or straightforward, but to see a kid walk out of a CURE hospital, freed from the impact of a correctable disability - that makes all the effort worth it!

When Judith was three, her legs began to bow outward at the knees. Her family tried herbal remedies and prayed and fasted for seven days, but there was no bone surgeon anywhere near their town. Over time, her legs curved further, and she was at risk of a permanent fracture.

Then a CURE Kenya mobile clinic visited the county referral hospital, and Judith was given a date for surgery. When the doctor asked what she wanted to do once her legs were straight, she didn’t hesitate: “I want to be able to run fast like my friends!”

Judith’s case was severe, but surgeons at CURE Children’s Hospital of Kenya successfully corrected her legs. As she left for home, she waved goodbye and promised, “See you soon! I will come back running!”

At her most recent follow-up, her mom, Maurine, was encouraged by how far Judith has come. “We have seen a drastic change,” she smiled. Please pray for Judith as she keeps healing and gains strength in her new legs.

It's been a long time coming (28 years coming to be exact), but as a network of eight pediatric surgical hospitals, we just celebrated giving our 400,000th surgical procedure to a kid in need of life-transforming surgery! Each one of these 400,000 procedures has done its part to relieve the weight of disability from a kid's life - giving them relief from pain, greater mobility, and the chance to run, play, and just be a kid again!

And this is all thanks to you (and people like you) who know this life isn't just about us and what we can get for ourselves. It's about stewarding what God has given us and doing our best to be God's hands and feet here on Earth!

When a child is born with clubfoot in North America, Europe, or many places in the world, it is often treated immediately, and the child will grow up having no clue they once had clubfoot. But in the countries where CURE works (Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Niger, Philippines, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe), kids born with clubfoot have few to no options to receive treatment. As such, these kids grow up experiencing difficulty walking, painful mobility, social exclusion, and vicious rumors.

Thankfully, clubfoot IS treatable, and it's one of the most common surgeries done at CURE hospitals! These surgeries don't just straighten a foot, but restore a child's place in their society!

Jeremy was born with a small swelling on his head. His mother, Espera, took him to see a doctor and was told nothing could be done. Because Jeremy was always so full of energy, the family hoped it wasn't serious, but over time, the swelling kept growing, and it became more and more obvious just how serious this swelling was.

After several hospitals turned them away, Jeremy was referred to a CURE Uganda clinic near his home and promptly brought to CURE Children's Hospital of Uganda. There, he had two surgeries to treat the swelling. Through it all, he became a favorite on the ward, chatting with everyone in his language, Alur, and making the whole team laugh.

Today, Jeremy is home with his mom. "I am so grateful for what CURE has done," Espera reflects. "My son's life has been changed!"
