✨Cheers to 24 years!✨

Recently we celebrated our President and Founding CEO, Bridget Clark Whitney’s twenty-fourth anniversary with Kids' Food Basket! Bridget's story with KFB began in 2002, when she joined the organization as an intern. She went on to become KFB's first employee and now leads the organization with big vision, advocacy and energy.

Over the past 24 years, Bridget has shaped KFB into one of Michigan's leading childhood nutrition and food equity organizations, always keeping the mission to nourish kids to reach their full potential front of mind. Today, we want to recognize Bridget and thank her for her dedication and inspirational leadership. Thank you, Bridget! 🫶

Although a little time has passed, we are still talking about the gorgeous Farm to Table meal prepared by Chef Micky from the Salt & Pepper Pub. With perfect summer weather and four courses of fresh, seasonal ingredients, the evening was a celebration of good food, community and nourishing our neighbors.

We are grateful to partners like Chef Micky and everyone who attended, volunteered or donated. You make this critical work possible.

Vermicomposting uses worms to break down food scraps and other organic materials, creating nutrient-rich compost that helps plants and gardens grow. Recently, the students at Cardinal Elementary in Muskegon experienced the amazing world of vermicomposting, partnering with KFB to explore how worms and compost play an important role in reducing food waste and supporting healthy soil!

“The school has totally fallen in love with the vermicomposter," shared teacher Gabby Stout. "The kids absolutely loved learning with the tumbler and worms. A lot of students were encouraged to try more vegetables because they wanted to feed food scraps to the worms, and so many realized, 'Oh! I really like this!' It has been amazing and the kids have really taken ownership of their garden."

We love seeing young learners discover that even the smallest creatures make a big difference! 🪱

A healthy meal nourishes a child today, but the lessons they learn about nutritious food and where food comes from can have an impact for years to come. Our work is built on three interconnected pillars that support children and strengthen our community. Each pillar connects with the others to create a system of change toward a brighter future.

Good food. Good health. Good future. It all adds up!

Brown Bag Decorating Month is not until October, but it's always a good time to add a touch of love to a Sack Supper bag! A simple drawing, colorful design or cheerful character can brighten a child's day and remind them that the community cares.

October will be here before we know it, so gather your supplies, spark your inner artist and start spreading kindness, one bag at a time. 🖍️

Before meals are packed, prepared and delivered, the KFB Food Access team is already hard at work in one of the busiest places at KFB - the warehouse.

Meet our Food Access team! Whether they are unloading deliveries, organizing inventory or working alongside school and community partners, they're making food access possible across West Michigan every day. Much of their work happens behind the scenes, but their dedication helps our staff, volunteers and partners have what they need to get Sack Suppers and Weekend Meals in the hands of local kids.

We are grateful for these team members who keep everything moving. Every forklift load, phone call and checked box helps connect kids with the food they need, creating a healthier West Michigan!

The first harvest from our Muskegon community growing space has arrived, and we are honored to share with our community! Recently, the first servings of fresh, KFB cucumbers were harvested, prepared and delivered in meals to local kids.

What was once an idea filled with possibility is now a thriving garden providing fresh, healthy produce to our neighbors. Thank you for making Barclay St. a possibility!
