Our first Farm to Table Dinner of 2026 is in the books, and what an incredible evening it was!

Our Grand Rapids team had a blast spending time volunteering with Kids' Food Basket, weeding garden beds and planting tomatoes.

Kids’ Food Basket works to nourish West michigan kids to reach their full potential. Their Sack Supper program delivers free, well-balanced meals to about 9,000 children, reaching kids who might otherwise go without a meal after school. Their work includes much more like community farming, family food programs, and nutrition education.

We’re proud to support organizations that strengthen the communities where we live and build.

The KFB farms are bustling with growth, including many school groups visiting to explore, learn and taste fresh food right where it’s grown. Recently, we welcomed Coit Creative Arts Academy and Buchanan Elementary, and we loved receiving their thoughtful thank you notes!

For Coit’s second graders, it was a full-circle moment. After building their own hydroponic system at school and trying to grow strawberries themselves, they came to the farm and saw a larger system in action filled with bright, ripe berries. Getting to pick and taste strawberries at KFB connected their classroom learning to a real world experience.

Fourth graders from Buchanan brought just as much curiosity and excitement. They sampled "hot flowers" (nasturium) and created their own “leaf lemonade” by tasting stevia and wood sorrel together. They also shared that they are planting seeds and starting gardens of their own, eager to watch them grow.

When students connect with fresh food, try new flavors and see themselves as growers, something powerful takes root, shaping healthier habits and stronger connections to healthy food and why it matters.

Cool, crunchy and refreshing, cucumbers are a favorite in Sack Suppers. This National Cucumber Day, we want to share why cucumbers are so special!

Cucumbers are 95% water, so they help you stay hydrated, but they are also full of fiber to keep bellies happy. They provide essential vitamins and potassium to support a healthy heart and body. Their cooling nature means that they are refreshing for your skin, too! They taste great on their own, in a salad, dipped in hummus or even added to your water!

Healthy and delicious? We think that's cool as a cucumber!

We often hear that transportation is a barrier to healthy food access for families, which is why our volunteer delivery drivers and meal-distribution models are so important! Our drivers are familiar, friendly faces in the communities we serve. And their impact is incredible: so far this year, volunteers have delivered more than 1.77 million meals and logged 68,000 miles on the road. That's enough to circle the Earth two and a half times!

We are currently looking for a few more drivers to join us this summer, delivering healthy meals to summer programs. Help is especially needed Monday through Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Contact [email protected] to continue driving for a difference for West Michigan kids!

We are grateful for the kindness and generosity for Zeeland Christian School fourth graders Wi******er, Noah and Caleb. Recently, these young entrepreneurs made and sold chocolate-covered marshmallows for their school's market day project, then chose to donate those funds to Kids' Food Basket! We are honored by their gift and inspired by the creative ways kids are making a difference in West Michigan!
