There's something that happens at Acton University that's hard to put into words.

It's the conversations that run long after the sessions end. The friendships formed across languages and traditions. The moment a big idea clicks in a new way because someone from the other side of the world helped you see it differently.

When was the last time you held a piece of history?

This week at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, you can do exactly that. Our "Words That Built a Nation" exhibit features more than 40 documents from the American founding, including one of only five known first-edition copies of the U.S. Constitution from 1788. Unlike most collections, these documents won't be behind glass. You can touch them.

Early editions of the Declaration of Independence, the Magna Carta, the Stamp Act, writings by Jefferson and Adams, and a first edition of Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations are all on display.

The exhibit runs June 23-25, noon to 4 p.m. at DeVos Place. Free and open to the public. Learn more at the link in the comments.

The oldest of four kids, I grew up alongside other homeschooling, evangelical families at our church, while my wife’s homeschooling friends were artsy and nonreligious. I’m sure we were 'weird': My family had chickens and competed at speech and debate tournaments; she played 'Civil War' in the backyard, her brother trying to sound out 'Reveille' on the bugle while she tended to the wounded.

In the ’90s, it took courage to homeschool; my dad says most people thought he and my mom were stupid for not sending us to school. For the most part, that’s not true today. Homeschoolers, as a whole, are normal."

A Finnish MP and a Lutheran bishop have just been convicted of hate speech, over a booklet describing the biblical view of sexuality.

Mathew Block reports on what has become known as Finland's "Bible Trial." Dr. Päivi Räsänen and Bishop Juhana Pohjola were found guilty by the Supreme Court of Finland in a narrow 3-2 decision over a 2004 booklet describing the historic Christian teaching on sexuality. The case began with a 2019 tweet quoting Romans and has dragged on for six years, including 13 hours of police interrogation over Dr. Räsänen's faith and biblical interpretation.

"I pay the sentence with euros," Bishop Pohjola said. "Others pay with fear. This verdict has a chilling effect on society."

The pair are now appealing to the European Court of Human Rights. The outcome could shape how religious speech is treated across all 46 nations of the Council of Europe, and the precedent is already being watched in Canada.

Antoni Gaudí knew his church would not be finished in his lifetime.

Whenever asked about its completion—a common question considering the slow progress—he would respond, “My client is in no hurry.” At the time of his untimely death, just a single bell tower dedicated to the apostle Barnabus stood complete.

Now, a century on, La Sagrada Familia is the tallest church in the world. It is still unfinished.
