Meet your next CreativeMornings speaker, Jeffrey Augustine Songco!

Jeffrey Augustine Songco is an artist working with photography, performance, immersive installations, and a fictional brotherhood known as the Society of 23. Through his artwork, he celebrates and critiques ideas of belonging and American identity.

Jeffrey earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon School of Art and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. His artwork has been exhibited across the country at venues including Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh, the Asian Art Museum | San Francisco in San Francisco, Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, South Bend Museum of Art, and lamontgallery at Phillips Exeter Academy. His writing has appeared in Art21, Bad at Sports, and Hyperallergic, and he is featured in the book “Queering Contemporary Asian American Art.”

Here in West Michigan, Jeffrey has volunteered with CreativeMornings Grand Rapids, served as a performer, costume designer, and board member at Circle Theatre, received the ArtPrize Nine Installation Category Juried Award, exhibited at Saugatuck Center for the Arts, and created permanent artworks for the Gerald R. Ford International Airport and Corewell Health.

Jeffrey is the 2026-27 Padnos Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Grand Valley State University. He lives in Allendale with his partner, Jeff, where they make art, play video games, and happily spoil their two rescue dogs, Mellon and Tommy.

Virginia is a filmmaker, comedian, writer and storyteller with 17+ years of experience working on projects for Marvel, Warner Bros., IMAX, LEGO and more.

After building her career in Hollywood, she brought that experience to Grand Rapids, where she continues to create, write and support the local community.

Alec is an endurance athlete, photographer, and storyteller from West Michigan.

He was born with cerebral palsy affecting the left side of his body, and doctors once said he would never walk.

Today, he uses running and endurance challenges to show what’s possible when faith, consistency, and perseverance come together.

Whether he’s capturing weddings behind a camera or running hundreds of miles, Alec believes every person has a story worth telling.

His passion is helping people see that our greatest obstacles don’t have to become our identity; they can become the very thing God uses to shape us and inspire others.
