West Slope Youth Voice

Earlier this spring, 14 of our Interns from across the Western Slope traveled to Denver to meet with lawmakers in the Colorado Legislature as part of West Slope Youth Voice’s annual lobby trip. During this process, we identified 17 bills important to WSYV and our peers, and we met with ten Colorado lawmakers and Governor Jared Polis to bring the perspectives of Western Slope youth directly into those conversations. From the House Floor to the Senate Chamber, we witnessed live legislative sessions and watched committees debate, deliberate, and hear testimony.

Today, in The Daily Sentinel of Grand Junction, letter writer Judith Chapin acknowledges the brave stand of the students who walked out last week in order to protest unconstitutional actions by ICE. "Our youth today will be tomorrow’s leaders of our country. They are the ones who will be living in the aftermath of this political nightmare we’re trying to end. Only with the support from those with integrity, strength, and the will to stand their ground can we hope to maintain our republic and keep democracy intact. Many have fought and died for over 250 years to keep us free of an autocracy ruled by a dictator."
