Throwback to last year’s Howl-o-ween 5K organized by the Grand Junction Sports Commission! 🎃 This year’s race and costume contest is Saturday, October 24 at 10am at Las Colonias Park, and we’d love to see you and your furry friend dressed your best at the Roice-Hurst booth! Run or walk the full 5K, or opt for the shorter one mile route.

This year’s race proceeds benefit the Western Colorado Companion Animal Response Team (WestCo CART), a new local coalition that coordinates resources for companion animals during emergencies and disasters in Mesa County.

Thank you, Grand Junction Lions Club! 🙏 You may remember in January when the Lions Club announced that Roice-Hurst was selected as one of ten local nonprofits to receive generous grant funding from their Community Betterment Committee. This week, we received that funding!

The Lions Club's generous grant of $21,520 will be used to reimagine our outdoor kennel spaces, creating a more comfortable environment for the pets we care for. We are so grateful for the Grand Junction Lions Club's unwavering commitment to philanthropy, service, and community impact. ❤

Volunteering at Roice-Hurst doesn’t always mean walking dogs or playing with cats! 🌱 The Green Club is a group of awesome shelter volunteers, including the wonderful Lynn and Tim, pictured, who have a special interest in gardening. Over the past few months, they’ve been hard at work beautifying and maintaining the garden and grassy areas around our shelter building. By helping with outdoor upkeep, these volunteers make our shelter a more welcoming place for adopters, visitors, and pet families. ❤️

To our amazing volunteers: thank you, thank you, thank you! We are so grateful for your hard work, unique expertise, and generosity with your time.

Feel inspired by Lynn and Tim? If you have a special skill or interest, even if it’s not pet-related, you can use it to help shelter pets! Learn more and sign up to volunteer at rhhumanesociety.org/volunteer. ✨

Last week, we said goodbye to (drumroll, please) SIX large dogs during the Hill's Pet Nutrition adoption special! 👏 Big dogs tend to wait far longer in shelters than other types of pets, so for five days, Hill’s generously covered the adoption fees of all of our dogs who weighed more than 45 pounds.

Thank you, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, for making adoption more accessible and helping our big dogs find their happily ever afters! ❤️

The brand new Rainbow Bridge sculpture is officially installed in Downtown Grand Junction! 🌈 The Rainbow Bridge, created by local artist Terry Burnett, is a new public memorial honoring the pets we share our lives with and the love we continue to carry for them.

Please join us this afternoon at 4:30pm for a sculpture dedication. The sculpture is located on the 600 block of Main Street, just across the street from the Avalon. Attendees are invited to bring a collar or tag to add to the sculpture.

Following the sculpture dedication will be a multi-denominational Blessing of the Animals presented by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Bring your pet, or a photo of a living or departed animal, to receive a blessing.

This sculpture was made possible by generous contributions from Animal ER of the Western Slope and ProPowder Coating!
