for Lupe! 🐶 Lupe came to Roice-Hurst in 2017 as an emergency transfer from an area in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey. He was adopted and returned twice before finding the home of his dreams with his adopter, Amberlyn.

It’s been eight years since Lupe was adopted, and his mom sent in this sweet update! ❤

“You all rescued Lupe after he survived Hurricane Harvey and came up from Texas with heartworm. Luckily, his life since has been less exciting! He is living large in a little town outside of Denver. He just got a baby sister named Elena who runs him ragged in the backyard. She's brought out the puppy in him after he lost his companion dog in February (Harley lived a long wonderful life before passing peacefully at home from old age.) He gets homemade gravy in his food and has all the toys a pup could want. It's so wonderful to see him turning back the clock with his new puppy. He's been such an important part of our family for the last eight years. We plan on taking both pups on a lot of hikes this summer!”

Are you searching for a new companion but haven't clicked with any of the pets currently in our care? Your match may be on our waitlist! 🐾

Our shelter often operates at capacity, so when we receive requests to take in more pets than we have room for, we add them to our waitlist until pets are adopted and space opens up. You can browse our waitlist of pets within the community looking for new homes at rhhumanesociety.org/communitypets!

These pets were listed to Rehome by Adopt a Pet by their current families, allowing you to contact the pet's family to arrange a private adoption. This allows pets to find new homes more quickly without ever needing to enter the shelter!

Keep in mind that we haven't met these pets yet and they are not owned by or affiliated with Roice-Hurst, so it's important to have a conversation with a pet's current owner about their medical needs, habits, and behavior.

Who wants to spend their summer living in an animal shelter? Not Scout! 👎🙅

He'd rather be riding with his head out the car window, splashing in the river, bounding down a hiking trail, and then recharging with a nap on your living room floor.

Scout first arrived at Roice-Hurst back in January with a gnarly injury from an attempted at-home neuter surgery, according to his vet. Since then, he's healed up wonderfully and is still the happiest, goofiest, most trusting dog in the whole shelter.

He’s enjoying this chapter of his life with his friends at Roice-Hurst, but five months is a very long time to spend living in an animal shelter, and there’s no place like home.

Scout deserves to live a fun, adventurous life alongside someone who will match his energy and cherish his spunky spirit. Adopt or foster Scout at Roice-Hurst Humane Society in Grand Junction and make this summer his best one yet!
