Happy National Megalodon Day! 🦈

Fun fact… while most fossil critters are known by their genus name: Triceratops, Phacops, Allosaurus... C. megalodon is more famous for its specific epithet - megalodon!

These incredible prehistoric creatures were the apex predators of the sea MILLIONS of years ago! Although a complete megalodon fossil has never been discovered, we find their teeth everywhere due to a shark’s propensity to shed their teeth throughout their life! 🦷

These teeth aren’t found organically in Colorado, but they are found on North American coastlines! The image above is one of our megalodon tooth specimens held by Dr. Julia McHugh!

We sell castings of this fossil as well as other Megalodon merch at Dinosaur Journey - check it out today and get your shark on!

Happy National Trails Day! 🥾⛰️

We’re big fans of exploring the world around us and we know you are too! If you stop by Dinosaur Journey today, don’t forget to grab a free trail map brochure at the front desk and go on an outdoor adventure!

In addition, our wonderful Director of Paleontology, Dr. Julia McHugh, wrote a short blog about the local hiking trails in our area. You can find at our website, mowc.co!

Don’t forget to go to americanhiking.org to find more info about National Trails Day and find a hiking event near you! You can find the link to their website in our bio.

Happy hiking! 🌅
