HopeWest HopeWest is a nonprofit healthcare organization in western Colorado. Serving Mesa, Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Rio Blanco Counties. That’s why we’re here!

Through our Dementia Support Program, we have the honor of caring for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It's inspiring to be part of this cause and walk alongside the many incredible programs and community members in an effort to end Alzheimer’s and show support for those living with it today.

Death and dying isn’t something every nursing student gets the opportunity to practice before entering the workforce.

Through the partnership between HopeWest and Colorado Mesa University, nursing students participate in a carefully designed end-of-life simulation, including home care scenarios, death notifications, and what to expect. Throughout the day, students practice communication, adaptability, and compassion while learning how to support patients and families through one of life’s most challenging moments.

Giving every nursing student the opportunity to experience this simulation ensures that their first experience with death and dying is in a learning environment instead of with an actual patient. Equipping them with tools and education now allows them to enter tender moments with greater understanding and confidence.

Our HopeWest PACE participants are what make this program special. Last month we asked some members of our care team what PACE means to them, and this month we asked that same question to our participants.

Join us in honoring your angel baby on Thursday, October 15, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. in room 102 on the lower level of the HopeWest Ferris Hospice Care Center.

This special evening will feature story time for children, a keepsake to take home, and light refreshments. This is a no-cost event, open to the public. Registration is encouraged but not required.

We’re proud to celebrate HopeWest volunteer Joan, who was named this year’s BeaconFest Volunteer of the Year. She has been a dedicated HopeWest volunteer for more than 10 years, contributing a minimum of 400 hours each year in support of our mission.

Joan volunteers across the organization, supporting our administrative team, assisting with events, and spending time volunteering at our Heirlooms for Hospice store in Montrose.

“Whether I’m donating my time to Heirlooms or HopeWest, I know I’m helping my community. Receiving this award makes me feel so appreciated, I love what I do and getting this recognition from my community means so much,” Joan said.

Joan’s kindness and commitment to service makes a meaningful difference every day. We are deeply grateful for all she does to support our staff, patients and their families. Thank you, Joan, for the lasting impact you have had on the community.

“Our hope is that this fund provides comfort, practical support, and a reminder that no family should walk this journey alone."

Earlier this year, a local couple approached HopeWest with an idea after caring for a loved one out of state. During that time, a close friend offered them the use of her home near the hospice facility where their loved one, Carolyn, was receiving care. This experience showed them just how important a welcoming place to stay is when traveling to be with a loved one in hospice care.

“God placed it on our hearts to create Carolyn's House Fund after witnessing the generosity of a friend who cared for us during a difficult season. We wanted to extend that same compassion to others.”

The Carolyn’s House Fund helps to cover lodging for those traveling from out of town to be close to loved ones receiving care in the HopeWest Ferris Hospice Care Center.

In addition to providing lodging support, the couple also creates “welcome baskets” that include snacks, Bible verses, and a listing of local churches.

HopeWest and the many families who will benefit from the Carolyn’s House Fund are grateful to this couple. Motivated by their faith and the desire to serve others, this fund supports families during some of life's most challenging moments.
