From Our President:
One thing I have always believed in is running a transparent nonprofit.
At the end of the day, Collar of Duty is not funded by endless resources. We are funded by grants, donations, sponsorships, and the incredible support of people who believe in our mission. We are spending other people’s hard-earned money, and I believe our community deserves honesty about where Collar of Duty currently stands.
Three years ago, Collar of Duty was built on hope, healing, and a need within our community. Since the beginning, we have worked hard to prepare for emergencies and difficult moments. Unfortunately, we are now approaching the point where we may need to begin using those emergency funds just to continue operating.
We understand economic hardship has affected many families across the country. Rising costs, including gas prices and daily living expenses, have impacted everyone — including many of our supporters. While our mission focuses on supporting local Mesa County veterans, we are blessed to have supporters from across the nation who continue standing behind us.
At this time, Collar of Duty is facing the possible closure of new applications through the end of 2026 unless additional funding and volunteer support can be secured.
If you already have an application submitted, this does NOT affect you. We are continuing to work with current applicants and veterans already in the program. However, we may soon have to begin a waiting list for future applicants.
This is one of the hardest messages we have had to share.
We need help.
We need donations to help fund training, supplies, and program costs.
We need dedicated volunteer board members willing to step forward.
We need people willing to share our mission, advocate for us, and stand beside us during this critical moment.
This organization has always been powered by people who care deeply about veterans, rescue dogs, and the belief that no one should fight alone.
Right now, we are asking our community to help us continue that mission.
If you have ever considered donating, volunteering, sponsoring, fundraising, or becoming involved in any way — now is the time.

We also encourage anyone interested in nonprofit transparency to visit Candid.org, where you can view organizational and financial information about Collar of Duty. We strongly believe people deserve to know where their donations are going and how their support impacts our mission.
Thank you for continuing to believe in us, our veterans, and our dogs.
