With the holiday season coming up, it’s important we remember a few things!
Between crowded stores, holiday parties, parades, and family gatherings, the season can bring lots of extra excitement and distractions. Here are a few simple ways to show some love to our four-legged heroes:
🐾 Give them space. Always ask the handler before approaching or interacting with a service dog.
🐾 Please don’t pet without permission. Even the friendliest-looking pup may be working hard to support their veteran.
🐾 Keep little hands in mind. Teach children to admire working dogs from a distance and never call to them, chase them, or try to get their attention.
🐾 Skip the treats. Holiday goodies can be unsafe for dogs, and feeding a working dog can distract them from their job.
🐾 Be patient in crowded places. Give service dog teams room to navigate busy stores, events, and gatherings.
🐾 Remember the veteran, too. A little kindness, patience, and understanding can make a big difference for the person relying on that dog.
