What makes a story Jewish? Is it the characters, the subject, the person telling it, or something harder to define: a sensibility, a joke, a question or a detail that feels unmistakably familiar?

🎬 The Legend of Juan Jose Mundo is a vibrant coming-of-age story about first love, teenage obsession and identity in 1980s New York.

Reboot’s Tanya Schevitz sat down with writer/director Mike Walker, writer/producer Susan Gomes and star Anna Mirodin to talk about the film and the many ways a story can be Jewish without announcing itself as one.

Calling all Detroiters! Head over to The Sam on Thursday, September 24 for a screening of SONS OF DETROIT. Blending memoir, detective story, and documentary, the film, which was supported by Reboot Studios and JFI, follows filmmaker and Reboot Network member Jeremy Xido as he returns to the Detroit he left behindβ€”and to the family that raised him.

Join a conversation afterwards with the filmmaker alongside historian and storyteller Marsha Music and Rabbi Ethan Davidson for a discussion about identity, memory, and how family and place shape who we become. The ensuing conversation will be a chance to sit with a complicated story alongside people equipped to help unpack it.

Henry Winkler recalls how his parents hid their family heirlooms inside melted chocolate just to escape N**i Germany with enough resources to survive. It’s a striking reminder of the lengths our ancestors went to preserve their families and legacy.

His father, Harry Irving Winkler, later started a lumber business and was able to purchase back the jewelry. Winkler later gave his son a pocket watch that was part of the original collection smuggled out of Germany disguised as chocolate as a beautiful tribute to the family history.

The interview, held earlier this month, kicked off Season 17 of In Depth with Graham Bensinger.

Reboot Board Member Andrew Shapiro takes the stage with his band Twilight Muse at the 2nd Annual Climate Jam Benefit Concert Tuesday, September 22 at Brooklyn Bowl! 🎢🌎

The night will also feature an incredible lineup of musical guests, including Karl Denson, saxophonist for The Rolling Stones; Jen Hartswick and Natalie Cressman of Trey Anastasio Band; Grammy-winning pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph; and Adam Met of AJR, who is also an accomplished climate activist.
