Championship Saturday is almost here and our students are ready to take the stage at the Umoja Debate League Championship Tournament.

Join us at Wayne State Law School to support Detroit youth as they compete, lead, and confidently use their voices in the final tournament of the season.

It’s also not too late to volunteer. We’re still looking for judges, moderators, and general volunteers to help make the day a success.

The final round is here!! 🏆Join us for the 2026 Umoja Debate League Championship Tournament as our middle and high school scholars take the stage one last time this season.

From powerful arguments to confident leadership, these students have put in the work all year and we’d love for the community to come out and support them.

We’re also still looking for judges, moderators, and general volunteers to help make the day a success. Full day and half day volunteer opportunities are available!

Umoja Debate League Summer Debate Camp registration is NOW OPEN. ☀️⚖️

Students will build confidence, sharpen public speaking skills, and learn how to think critically alongside young leaders from across Detroit.

📍University of Detroit Mercy Law School
📅 June 23 – July 17

Middle School (6–8) is currently FULL. New middle school registrations will be added to the waitlist.

High School registration is still open for grades 9–12.

One thing about Umoja students? They’re going to leave an impression!

Ashley Jordan, a grad student at Wayne State University, came to her first Umoja Debate League tournament as a moderator and left inspired by the passion, confidence, and brilliance of Detroit youth.

Our Championship Tournament is happening June 6th, and we’re looking for volunteers, judges, and moderators to help make this experience possible for our students!

Umoja students don’t just learn how to debate… they debate EVERYTHING!

From chocolate vs. vanilla to Jordans vs. Yeezys, today’s practice definitely went off track for a minute. But honestly, that’s what makes Umoja special. Our students are passionate, confident, hilarious, and always ready to defend their point.

The future of public speaking, leadership, and critical thinking is in good hands. 🧠🎤

Another tournament day in the books. 👏🏾

Congratulations to all of this weekend’s winners, and big shoutout to every student who showed up, spoke up, challenged themselves, and represented their schools with confidence and courage. Every round is an opportunity to grow, and we’re proud of the work these young leaders continue to put in each month.

Thank you to our volunteers, judges, moderators, coaches, families, and supporters for helping make this tournament possible.
